This chapter broke me. I have been in a therapy group and have realized that I’m codependent but this chapter..wow. I just realized that I have been monitoring my environment since I was 3 for signs of threat. How could I have ever been curios about anything? How others felt was of the utmost importance for my well being and safety. Them being ok was how I was ok. I’m grieving not ever getting to know myself. Thank you for this.
This podcast has been an integral part of my recognition of my codependent tendencies, and the catalyst to finding agency, a voice, and eventually understanding who I am and what I want from this life. I’m deeply thankful for the vulnerability it took to share - and keep sharing - the journey as it twists and turns. I’m impressed and thankful for them for sharing their journey.
Wow, so this podcast is so vulnerable and informative, also presented in a very caring and respectful manner. I love the amount of love Brain and Stephanie share in these conversations. They are modeling healthy relationships in real time - or so it feels? So many moments were like. Mirror for me - since my unfortunate childhood filled with neglect and abuse also led me down the avoidant, shameful, powerless maladaptive behavior. This podcast validates so many of my own struggles in intimate and... more
The hosts experience is well-articulated and totally, regrettably, relatable. I really appreciate the self-awareness.
I was on board with most of the insights and stories. I could definitely give a much higher rating. However they got into some areas where they started talking about some things they had little knowledge or experience about with a condecending expert tone. Particularly 12 step. Should have just left it at "not for me". No need to down talk millions of people. The negatives you put forth represented that you didn't take the time to understand it at all.
