I’ve been listening to the 40+ Fitness Podcasts for a few years. I appreciate that the general theme of the podcast is straight forward, practical, and doable advice. Even when there are topics I think may not interest me I manage to glean a beneficial tip or just have a seed planted for a new way of thinking.

  • Love the podcast… pls fix the volume thing ☹️

Love the podcast. Lots and lots of great advice. Also love the three strategies at the end of every episode. But pls fix the volume of your recording. I listen to the podcast when I’m riding bicycle. E697 was really impossible to hear your voice.

    Thanks for what you do.

Dealing with kidney cancer with Dr. Nitin Yerram
Q: What challenges do patients face with insurance and access to care, and how can they navigate them?
Insurance denials and non-clinical barriers can delay imaging, tests, or treatments; patients should advocate for themselves, work with a supportive care team, and seek reputable doctors who treat many cases to ensure standards of care are followed.
Dealing with kidney cancer with Dr. Nitin Yerram
Q: What role does lifestyle play in kidney cancer prevention and management?
Regular exercise, healthy eating, managing obesity, blood pressure, and other comorbidities are important; while there is no magic cure, a healthier lifestyle supports overall outcomes and may influence cancer progression and treatment tolerance.
Dealing with kidney cancer with Dr. Nitin Yerram
Q: What are the main surgical options for localized kidney cancer and how are decisions made between partial and radical nephrectomy?
Partial nephrectomy removes only the tumor with a small margin, preserving kidney tissue when feasible; radical nephrectomy removes the entire kidney. Choice depends on tumor size, location, and proximity to vessels; most localized cases aim to preserve kidney function when possible.
Dealing with kidney cancer with Dr. Nitin Yerram
Q: When would you recommend biopsy of a renal mass, and why is it often avoided?
Biopsy is often avoided because solid renal masses have a high probability of being cancer (80-90%), and biopsy may not add useful information while risking sampling error or missing heterogeneity within the tumor.
Dealing with kidney cancer with Dr. Nitin Yerram
Q: What are the most common ways kidney cancer is detected, and should people be worried about incidental findings on scans?
Most are incidental findings on imaging or symptoms like visible or microscopic blood in the urine; not every kidney mass is cancer, but a solid mass is often treated as cancer unless proven otherwise, and imaging helps determine the extent and next steps.
