4.8 out of 5 stars from 15.7k ratings
  • First two seasons are the best

The first two seasons are the best, season three I managed to get half through but couldn’t bring myself to finish it. The way the presenter talks is so unbearable, overly exaggerated and dramatic, it ruins the joy of listening to an otherwise decent representation of the topic.

    No thanks.

It hurts me that I can only rate the whole show, season one and two definitely deserve five stars.

But maybe the creators will learn.

  • Seasons 1 and 2

Seasons 1 and 2 of this podcast are brilliant. Season 2 in particular is one of the greatest seasons of a show ever made. Unfortunately, the show will never be the same without Kevin Fong, and it makes no sense to do a new season about Artemis. Leave a great thing alone.

  • Great Story Ruined by Awful Narration

Seasons 1 & 2 were excellent, the story was told very well and the narrator got out of the way and let the story be told. Season 3 however… If you ever wanted to listen to a podcast narrated by a female version of the priest from Princess Bride, here’s your chance! The horrible over the top delivery combined with a think accent and speech pattern makes me constantly focus on the narrator and not the story. Please do us a favor and not let Maggie do another season!

  • This series gets worse every season

Season one, and to some extent season two, were groundbreaking in the sense that instead of telling the same old tired NASA stories, they spent time on engineering challenges, how NASA actually worked, etc. Unfortunately, for season three, they abandoned that and just rehashed the same stories we’ve already heard. And, as other reviewers have noted, the narrator is terrible to listen to.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Artemis II: 12. Please return to your seats
Q: How does weather factor into splashdown and does it require changing the splashdown location?
Weather, especially wave height, winds, and rain, directly affects splashdown location and recovery plans, with forecasts guiding the final decision to deploy recovery boats and choose a safe site.
Artemis II: 11. Science surprises
Q: How do they determine Orion's position so far from Earth, given limited GPS access?
Deep space networks and onboard instruments—star trackers, inertial measurement units, and optical navigation—confirm position, velocity, and attitude, with ground teams like the flight dynamics officer ensuring Orion is where it should be.
Artemis II: 9. Bye bye, fly-by
Q: How is water being managed on Orion compared to the Space Station?
Orion carries water in tanks with no in-system recycling, requiring careful rationing and timing, whereas the Space Station recycles nearly all water from urine, sweat, and humidity, demonstrating different design trade-offs for crew endurance.
Artemis II: 9. Bye bye, fly-by
Q: Could you talk a little about the different approach towards a moon landing between Apollo and Artemis?
Artemis takes bigger leaps with less frequent milestones, aiming for sustainable presence and international collaboration, while Apollo focused on a tightly scoped, rapid sequence toward landing; the newer approach prioritizes long-term infrastructure and base development.
Artemis II: 4. Launch after-party
Q: What are the next critical steps after launch?
the crew will perform system checks in orbit, prepare for the first maneuver, and then decide on the translunar injection burn based on go/no-go assessments.
