It's time to look at the first anime series ever set in Canada: the pastoral Quebec tale of Wakakusa No Charlotte (Charlotte of the Young Grass). It's not a World Masterpiece Theatre title, but it's got a little of that flavour, not to mention heaps ... more
Scott Pilgrim means a lot of things to a lot of people. He especially means a lot of things to his creator, Bryan Lee O'Malley, which led to a few surprises in the recent anime series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. And now that Scott Pilgrim is officially ... more
For the first time in three years, Zannen, Canada is back in the holiday spirit, although as usual this episode has less to do with the holidays as it does looking back at our favourite media of the past year. This is in itself may be an activity bes... more

The anime landscape in Canada is so different from the US (cf Crunchyroll survey of 2016), but as a peripheral chunk of an already-niche global market it’s hard to find any coverage. It’s a good archive! Lol also appreciate the hosts’ stories from bygone eras when simultaneous release was just a pipe dream
A great listen; very informative, and entertaining with often many great guests! If you’re interested in the Canadian take on many cool and nerdy things, definitely give a listen!
Criminally underrated show, and I don't just say that based on my bias as someone who has guested on it several times. Jesse puts an incredible amount of work into each episode and has unearthed untold amounts of information about anime fan and industry history in Canada. You should absolutely give it a listen!
I'm not Canadian but the industry analysis and focus on the way anime has interacted with Canadian culture makes Zannen Canada really compelling and something that really stands out as an anime podcast.
Keep up the good work.
