Reviews

4.7 out of 5 stars from 30 ratings
  • 3rd Dave Jackson Podcast I listen to.

Dave Jackson works at Libsyn. He actually handled one of my podcasting problems on an official Libsyn support ticket. Heroes of Science Fiction and Fantasy benefited greatly from listening to 3 of Dave Jackson’s podcasts from August 2023- into 2024. I binged at least a few episodes a day while at work. I know this review does not help Dave get found easier, -cause Dave said that on a podcast. Reviews and ratings was a way to show my appreciation for his 5 Star podcasts.

As a former teacher myself, I really appreciate someone who takes the time to share their knowledge in a way that’s both entertaining and easily understandable.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Great Outdoors: Where Your Podcast Dreams Go to Die
Q: What are the best practices for recording outdoors and managing wind and other background noises?
The host explains that indoors is generally manageable while outdoors is unpredictable, suggesting practical steps like using windscreens on every microphone, accepting some background noise if it adds to the vibe, and choosing gear that fits portable, on-the-go recording—emphasizing that sometimes leaving background noise in can yield better audio than aggressive noise removal.
Why Combining Shows is a Recipe for Disaster
Q: So Joey asks, look, I'm doing a bi-weekly pod. I really hate when people call it pod for the record. I don't know why. With one other person, we talk games on Tuesday and shows on Friday. We're already 16 episodes in and not including YouTube. We average about two downloads per episode. I would get some feedback on your show. And I would also make sure you're on Apple and Spotify and all the other places. Two is a giant red flag that something here is wrong. My question is, if we should split the show in the RSS feed or keep it the way it is, is it affecting the SEO?
The host recommends splitting the feeds, especially when the topics are not related, to improve discovery and user experience; he argues that keeping them in a single feed can confuse the audience and hamper growth, and notes that major podcast hosting platforms make it easy to manage multiple feeds.
Pursuing my podcast as a business
Q: Is it worth pursuing my podcast as a business?
The host suggests that it's better to focus on growing and serving an engaged audience first, then monetize; with small audiences, advertising yields are minimal, so most sustainable monetization comes from a combination of audience-support mechanisms and controlled growth.
Don't Start a Podcast Without This Essential Ingredient
Q: What advice would you give to someone worried about starting a podcast without a guaranteed audience?
Focus on content and delivery while having a passion for the topic; understanding your 'why' is essential.
