  • Missed potential

I wanted to like the Brain at Work podcast because the topics around neuroscience, leadership, and workplace performance are genuinely interesting. Unfortunately, the podcast quickly becomes repetitive. Many episodes recycle the same ideas and stretch simple concepts far longer than necessary.

The production quality is also surprisingly weak for an organization positioning itself as a premium corporate leadership brand. Audio quality and pacing can be inconsistent, and overall the show often fe... more

Used to be interesting content but unfortunately this podcast moved from neuroscience to junk science to cash in on the AI bandwagon.

  • Quiet Leadership

My life was changed by David Rock’s book Quiet Leadership. The title intrigued me because I enjoyed leading in school and sports, but I talked a lot. After reading the book I found that some of my approach was solid, some of it was less likely to provide for growth or insights. Mr. Rock’s title is tidy like his model for provoking insights through others, yourself, and the team. A quintessential tool in mankind’s tool belt, a true thanks. This podcast is phenomenal and provides science related t... more

  • Great Content, Great Guests

I listened to the most recent episode with Dr. Lisa Aziz-Zadeh and Dr. David Rock and they had some great insights into ways to combat burnout and maintain a healthy work-life balance. I never realized how multifaceted empathy is when it comes to the neuroscience of related emotions that create the emotion. As a small business owner, I always strive to be empathetic with my team and resonate with their employees on a human level, but this episode gave me some tips on how to better assist them in... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A conversation with Diane Gherson, former CHRO of IBM, on the future of HR
Q: How do you think HR is going to change or needs to change?
HR will move toward work design and strategic problem-solving that integrates AI-human collaboration, with HR expanding beyond administrative roles toward guiding transformation.
A conversation with Diane Gherson, former CHRO of IBM, on the future of HR
Q: What are your thoughts on early career people and graduates entering the workforce in this time?
Strong AI foundations plus domain expertise are essential; graduates should pair AI fluency with deep knowledge in a relevant field to break into the industry.
AI and the Developing Brain: A Conversation with Researcher Dr. Zak Stein
Q: How should we think about cognitive offloading with AI, and what should we teach the next generation of workers?
We should teach people to understand how the mind works, cultivate metacognition, and maintain core cognitive skills while using AI as a tool to augment thinking rather than replace it; developing a culture that values careful use and self-regulation will reduce downstream skill atrophy.
AI and the Developing Brain: A Conversation with Researcher Dr. Zak Stein
Q: What did we get wrong about social media, and what would you say was the right approach in hindsight?
The hype around social media overestimated its benign potential and underestimated how it would surveil, manipulate, and dysregulate attention—leading to widespread ADHD-like symptoms and heavier social polarization; a better approach would have emphasized safeguarding, critical literacy, and stronger guardrails early on.
The Human-AI Experience: A Conversation with Futurist Douglas Rushkoff
Q: How should companies approach human value in an AI-powered era?
They should ask what the company is for, align with human needs, and design cultures that honor human worth and curiosity, not just productivity. Frontline employees should be empowered as the nervous system of the enterprise.
