You Must Remember This is a storytelling podcast exploring the secret and/or forgotten histories of Hollywood’s first century. It’s the brainchild and passion project of Karina Longworth (founder of Cinematical.com, former film critic for LA Weekly), who writes, narrates, records and edits each episode. It is a heavily-researched work of creative nonfiction: navigating through conflicting reports,... more

This cropped up in the Cautionary Tales feed. The subject matter seemed interesting, but unfortunately the presentation is so shockingly bad I couldn’t get more than 5 minutes in. The presenter places emphasis in strange places as she reads, stretches words out in an oddly mannered fashion, and pauses in such a way as to destroy the flow of what she’s saying. Pretty much the exact opposite of what you want in a podcaster. I rarely write reviews, but this was so awful I had to.
One of my favorite podcasts because it’s always fun and interesting - this one won’t put you to sleep 😊
Not just the same old “Hollywood mythology”. Love the depth personal and societal perspectives , which makes her research cross into historical and cultural territory that feels fresh, relevant and critical for us to look at if we are not to repeat the patterns that have had tragic repercussions for our country and for the world. Thank you for dedication to presenting quality content. Your passion is palpable. I’m riveted. The Manson series was difficult to stay with, but an important story to t... more
When I first found this podcast, there was so much material that I jumped around to various topics that interested me, but now I just select a season and let it roll. Whatever subject Karina discusses is thoughtfully and intricately played against the culture of the times and Hollywood.
I’ve been a fan of this podcast for years, but the whole series was nearly soiled for me by Karina Longworth’s disasterous decision to attempt an embarrassing, fingers-on-a-blackboard, unrealistic foreign accents for any non Americanthat seemed designed to delight racists and irritate anyone else. A terrible shame.
