过度焦虑的人，是因为敏感，脆弱，想太多吗？神经科学与生物学的著名学者萨博斯，用一本《斑马为什么不得胃溃疡》，告诉我们，焦虑和压力，其实是大脑在过度保护我们。
他认为，如果能够非常详细的了解压力和焦虑会对身体产生的影响，加上适当的方法，就可以有效的帮助我们应对焦虑和压力，很大的改善情绪和身体健康。
这个观点，同样被现代焦虑症自主疗法的奠基人维克斯（著有<焦虑症的自救>）提出过。
