Listened to the episode with Taylor McGregor and what an amazing podcast to encourage others walking through grief. Larry did a great job allowing Taylor to open up and share how she walked through it. Would recommend to anyone dealing with grief or even that hasn’t because it’s coming in due time! • Unique, sincere exploration of grief

What a deep, quiet, and wonderful addition to our understanding of a grief journey. I first listened to the Highlights episode at the end of Season One, and I was drawn into Larry’s voice as our guide. I went back and listened, one episode at a time during my commute home each day, in the order of my interest. I have read lots of books and articles on grief since my husband’s death several years ago, and this is different. It combines Larry’s honest reflections on his loss with the voices of aut... more

  • Honest and Informative

I really enjoy listening to Larry and his guests. Larry is a great interviewer who asks honest and direct questions, giving his guests space to be vulnerable and talk openly. As someone who has not experienced the kind of loss that most of the guests have, this podcast has been informative and helpful for me to understand grief better and how to support those who are grieving. Definitely recommended for people looking for support or more information. Thanks Larry!

  • Hit home

Having similar experiences to Larry, losing my wife and then my mom, this episode really resonated with me. As the doctor said, we don’t get over it, our loved ones are always with us, their memories are inside of us. We need to embrace the positive memories to cope with the loss of our loved ones.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Grieving Someone Still Living: a discussion with Dr. Stacey Pinatelli
Q: Can you unpack ambiguous loss and how it evolves?
Ambiguous loss refers to losses where there is no clear ending or closure, such as when a loved one is alive but not the same due to illness or estrangement. It involves both physical and psychological absence, creating a frozen state where people grieve without the usual rituals or social scripts. The goal is not closure but learning to live with the loss and sustain meaningful connection through acceptance and support.

Tim shares that Holly's laugh and shared family successes remain central to his life; he keeps her memory present through the foundation and by allowing Holly to be a continuing part of his life and decisions.
Tim Scanlan: Spousal Loss & Grief
Q: What advice would you give to other widowers navigating grief and trying to explain their feelings to others?
He advocates seeking support from multiple sources, including church-based grief groups and friends who have walked the same journey, and stresses the importance of talking openly about grief to normalize it and avoid isolation.
Tim Scanlan: Spousal Loss & Grief
Q: How did you deal with the question of dating after your spouse's death, and where are you now in that regard?
Tim explains he initially avoided dating, focused on his kids and career, and eventually met someone with Minnesota ties who shared a similar background; he emphasizes that Holly remains a part of his life and that his new partner understands and respects that history.
ESPN's Taylor McGregor on Grieving as a teenager the loss of her Father
Q: All right, so Taylor, tell us about your father, Keli. What kind of person was he?
Taylor describes her father as someone who made everyone feel seen and valued, invested in the souls of people, and who combined worldly accomplishment with deep care for others; his impact was especially in how he treated people.
