Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

FinTech and Embedded Finance
Q: How did you navigate the leadership transition from CFO to CEO, and how has your approach to leadership evolved?
Stay true to yourself, spend more time listening than speaking, and engage across all levels of the organization to ensure clear, aligned communication and customer-focused execution.
FinTech and Embedded Finance
Q: What are the key lessons that prepared you for leading a modern card issuing platform today?
Be curious, adopt a solution-oriented mindset, listen deeply to customers and innovators, and build a strong, empowered team; combine technology with customer focus to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.
Reinventing Business Identity
Q: How does Middesk manage the balance between in-house policy and third-party decisioning in client integrations?
Customers define their risk policies, Middesk provides the data and intelligence, and decisioning can happen in the customer's own systems or through Middesk's workflow tools. Middesk aims to be agnostic about how the information is consumed, acting as the storyteller that helps customers make good decisions quickly.
Reinventing Business Identity
Q: What exactly is KYB and how does it differ from KYC in the context of a business?
KYB is an extension of KYC focused on the business as the customer. It involves understanding corporate structures, legal entity names, tax IDs, beneficial ownership, and the various risk signals around industries and corporate activities, all to verify and monitor a company rather than an individual.
Reinventing Business Identity
Q: To begin, could you walk through your background and what drove you to found Middesk?
I grew up in Vermont, worked at Checker where we built the first API for criminal screening and driving records, and saw how laborious it was to verify legitimate customers. That experience inspired me to build Middesk to apply the same identity and risk learnings to companies, scaling onboarding and reducing friction for SMBs.
