Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Talk Hospitality To Me - Russell Morin
Q: What is it like working with your kids in the business?
My oldest son is the CEO of the holding company, my other son is the CFO, and my nephew runs the restaurant part; the succession has been smooth because we were deliberate about bringing them in and aligning them with the business's needs.
Talk Hospitality To Me - Russell Morin
Q: If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
I would stress hiring smarter people, being willing to accept criticism, and operating on the business rather than just in the business, plus capitalizing to hire strong leadership like a sales manager and CEO to drive scalable growth.
Talk Hospitality To Me - Russell Morin
Q: What has been the biggest obstacle in hospitality over the years?
The biggest obstacle is realizing you are the chief cook and bottle washer at startup; the path to growth hinges on hiring great people, paying them well, giving solid benefits, and sharing profits, which necessitated creating processes like profit sharing and a handbook.
Talk Hospitality To Me - Leishla Maldonado
Q: Tell us about your life before LOMA and how your early experiences shaped what you do now.
I grew up in Chelsea, Massachusetts, with a strong cultural background from Puerto Rico and Central America, worked in food service from Subway to Hard Rock, learned the art of hospitality through hands-on roles, and gradually built a career that emphasized genuine care for guests and a community-focused bar program.
Talk Hospitality To Me - Casey Riley
Q: Are you originally from Rhode Island? Were you born and raised here?
No, I was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and later moved into culinary paths that eventually brought me to Rhode Island.
