  • Pretty good

This is an interesting podcast with helpful topics and tips, but the host really needs to work on the number of times she says ‘100%’ when she agrees with someone, and also reduce the number of times she calls kids ‘humans’. You can call them children or kids…the word humans gets kind of annoying and unnatural after a while.

Q: Jon, can you let folks know where can they snag this book?
You can find the book at Whole Parent Academy's website and wherever books are sold; you can also email Jon or his wife Jess to get the preorder or early order forms.
387- Sobriety, Fatherhood, and Starting Over, with The Tired Dad, Jon Gustin
Q: When you started Tired Dad, you would have had what? Like a three-year-old and a baby?
Jon describes the early chaos and the realization that life with a newborn and a toddler required a shift in expectations, leading to deeper conversations with his wife about parenting goals.
382- What Kids Need Most When Parents Divorce, with Michelle Dempsey-Multack, MSEd
Q: What are the most important things to guide the conversation with kids about divorce?
Deliver age-appropriate hard truths, avoid using the other parent as the bad guy, and ensure kids understand that change is a part of life while emphasizing safety, stability, and ongoing support.
382- What Kids Need Most When Parents Divorce, with Michelle Dempsey-Multack, MSEd
Q: Break that down for me. What does it look like in terms of it being child first? How does that look in practice?
It means prioritizing the child's experience, explaining changes clearly in age-appropriate terms, and avoiding putting kids in the middle or using them as messengers. It also includes maintaining consistent, trauma-informed support and coaching for families.
375- Parenting a Spicy One: Raising Big Personalities with Compassion and Boundaries, with Mary Van Geffen
Q: Why do traditional parenting techniques often backfire with strong-willed kids?
Traditional techniques can create tension and backfire because strong-willed children have an allergy to shame and respond poorly to punishment.
