Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

151 Gastrointestinal surgery
Q: When do you start and how long do you go on for?
We give para-optic antibiotics during the surgery but we wouldn't continue them after surgery.
151 Gastrointestinal surgery
Q: Is there a way that you say that if you're cutting into the tissue and it's not bleeding, then it's not viable?
If I'm unsure, then I always feel I don't want to do a disservice to the animal. So I would then do an enterectomy.
151 Gastrointestinal surgery
Q: Do you have to close that or you just leave that?
I would just leave that, of course, check the omentum if there's any bleeding there and deal with that properly.
147 Heart murmurs in puppies
Q: So, is there any other alternative really apart from echocardiography for this?
Echocardiography is the best and most informative test for diagnosis of congenital heart disease, though some additional tests like ECG can help.
147 Heart murmurs in puppies
Q: At what point in time would you say that a puppy has a murmur that's going to be something that will last?
Not all puppies have passing murmurs; they need to be monitored over time, particularly during vaccinations, to assess persistence and potential issues.
