  • Great guests

The guests are the best part. The host is too long winded and struggles to let the guests answer the questions. In addition, it’s an official podcast, so more effort should be made by the host to use the new FEI nomenclature. Calling LRK3DE a 4* is no longer correct!

Great program, but at times audio quality is so poor it's difficult to listen to.

USEA Podcast #413: U.S. Breeding & Young Horse Special
Q: What are the financial realities of breeding and bringing a foal to competition level?
She lays out the typical cost trajectory from stud fees and vet costs to mare maintenance and foal raising, noting that breeding is a passion and can be financially impractical, with $20,000–$30,000 often invested in young horses before they compete.
USEA Podcast #413: U.S. Breeding & Young Horse Special
Q: How do you approach stallion selection, and what factors beyond simply picking the best stallion come into play?
DiDi explains evaluating the mare's strengths and weaknesses, considering the stallion's traits, and factoring in location, veterinary support, and the feasibility of frozen or transported semen.
USEA Podcast #413: U.S. Breeding & Young Horse Special
Q: What do you look for in a mare when aiming for an upper-level horse, and how does temperament influence those choices?
She emphasizes a mare's size, bone, conformation, and pedigree, plus temperament that suits the breeder's goals; if the mare has hot or difficult traits, she suggests careful selection of stallions and considering marketability and the intended rider.
USEA Podcast #413: U.S. Breeding & Young Horse Special
Q: So DiDi, first of all, give us a little bit of background on you and where your love of breeding came from.
DiDi describes starting with an off-the-track Thoroughbred mare, breeding to improve her, and gradually expanding to breed more horses due to necessity and passion, eventually building a broad program that spans from lower levels to upper-level contenders.
USEA Podcast #408: Volunteers Make Eventing Possible
Q: What advice would you give to someone considering volunteering for the first time?
Turn up, be willing to try different roles, use the volunteer app for guidance, ask questions, and remember that there is no such thing as a stupid question—help is available and every bit of effort is valued.
