  • No longer a fan

I’ve been pretty disappointed with Kraske’s interviews this year. He is gentle and passive with guests who should be challenged. Yesterday’s episode about KC police training was the end for me - I could not believe what I was hearing. This program is officially out of my rotation.

Kraske is just a little too old white guy for the world we’re living in. I think it’s time they bring in someone else for these interviews.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Kansas City law professor says the U.S.’s patchwork abortion landscape isn’t working
Q: What is the state of abortion access today?
Access varies widely by state, with bans in some states not stopping abortions but pushing people to travel or use mail-order medication, while other states preserve access; the legal framework is in flux, with ongoing court decisions that could tighten or loosen access, especially for certain drugs like mifepristone.
KCUR event 'KC for the W' will celebrate women game-changers in sports and the media
Q: When you first started at NPR, you were covering topics like conflict, politics and natural disasters. Why did you want to make the pivot into the world of sports?
Becky explains that she has always loved sports, but the pivot came from a chance to translate hard news into compelling sports storytelling and to highlight how sports intersect with larger societal issues.
Food recs: Kansas City’s best steaks and steakhouses
Q: If someone only eats steak a few times a year, what should they order to experience quality?
Choose a range starting with a filet for a lean, reliable baseline, then move to ribeye or KC strip to compare fat content and flavor, and consider wagyu or dry-aged options only if you want a luxury or special-occasion experience.
Kansas City Manager Mario Vasquez feels ‘pretty good’ about World Cup readiness
Q: What metrics will define success once we're through this for Kansas City, for tourism, small business, infrastructure use, for example, and how are we positioning what we learned from this experience as a municipality?
The host emphasized that success will be measured by visitors having positive experiences, which then prompts word-of-mouth referrals and repeat visits, along with a spirit of regional cooperation and the pooling of resources across departments to prepare for ongoing collaboration beyond the event.
For Kansas City trumpeter Alber, making music is a beautiful ‘curse’
Q: Why the trumpet?
It happened somewhat by chance; a family member played trumpet, there was an old instrument around, and that opportunity in middle school led me to pursue it as my primary voice.
