  • Not bad

It’s the best (or only?) KC news podcast, but I do wish the structure was a bit stronger. The headlines in the first section are the best part, but there are very few of those. The rest of the podcast then focuses on one story/interview (usually a more human interest piece) that can be hit or miss. Maybe there just aren’t enough local news headlines to fill a podcast each day.

  • Great idea. Wish they’d pay more attention to City Hall.

Too many of the stories are fluff.

What are some of the highlights on with the next budget being entertained by the KC City Council in March? Why doesn’t Jackson County prosecute violent criminals? What’s the deal with the increasing number of homeless people in KC and what’s the impact on the taxpaying citizenry?

These are a few of the questions specific to Kansas City that you could be trying to answer. These questions, and many more, if answered, could give Kansas Citians the kind of info... more

How an Olathe traffic stop led to deportation
Q: Do Juan and his sister know why they were pulled over at that moment?
The officer cited speeding, but the official report suggests no clear reason, raising questions about the purpose of the stop.
How an Olathe traffic stop led to deportation
Q: Tell us about the traffic stop. What happened?
Juan was driving with his sister Anna when they were pulled over; the officer ran a background check, learned of an immigration administrative warrant, and ICE arrived, leading to Juan's deportation.
All around Kansas City, bus fares are back
Q: How will riders pay for fares and what changes should they expect?
Riders will use a $2 fare per ride with a $4 daily cap, no cash payments, and most people should tap to pay via cards or the RideKC Go app; reduced fare options will be available through United Way for eligible individuals.
All around Kansas City, bus fares are back
Q: Savannah, why are free bus fares going away?
The move back to fares follows a long budget fight between the city and KCATA, with reliance on COVID relief funds eventually drying up, and a desire to stabilize funding and bring back service levels even as monthly and daily passes provide a capped, predictable cost for riders.
Kansas City is losing a quarter of its daily bus routes
Q: Well, to start, can you just run down what's being cut here?
The weekday routes losing service include about one-fourth of the current KCATA network, with several long-standing routes affected; weekend reductions hit specific lines and hours, and overall the pattern shows a shift toward longer headways and reduced service frequency.
