  • Not bad

It’s the best (or only?) KC news podcast, but I do wish the structure was a bit stronger. The headlines in the first section are the best part, but there are very few of those. The rest of the podcast then focuses on one story/interview (usually a more human interest piece) that can be hit or miss. Maybe there just aren’t enough local news headlines to fill a podcast each day.

  • Great idea. Wish they’d pay more attention to City Hall.

Too many of the stories are fluff.

What are some of the highlights on with the next budget being entertained by the KC City Council in March? Why doesn’t Jackson County prosecute violent criminals? What’s the deal with the increasing number of homeless people in KC and what’s the impact on the taxpaying citizenry?

These are a few of the questions specific to Kansas City that you could be trying to answer. These questions, and many more, if answered, could give Kansas Citians the kind of info... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Kansas City is losing a quarter of its daily bus routes
Q: Well, to start, can you just run down what's being cut here?
The weekday routes losing service include about one-fourth of the current KCATA network, with several long-standing routes affected; weekend reductions hit specific lines and hours, and overall the pattern shows a shift toward longer headways and reduced service frequency.
A homegrown referee will work the World Cup
Q: How many matches will you referee and where will you be stationed?
We'll be based in Miami, with a 10-day seminar before the tournament; they assign you to matches a few days before, and you travel with your crew.
A homegrown referee will work the World Cup
Q: Do you decide ahead of time how you'll approach the match, or do you call it as you see it?
We formulate a game plan during preparation, but we stay adaptable and adjust in the first 10 minutes or so if the game unfolds differently, tightening or loosening control as needed.
A homegrown referee will work the World Cup
Q: What does it mean to be an assistant referee, and what do you do?
An assistant referee watches for offside and provides support to the center official by tracking play off the ball, managing fouls in their area, and communicating in real time to help the center referee make calls.
UMKC students question hiring of new university police chief
Q: What are some of the concerns you've heard students voice about the university hiring Daniel Graves?
Students are worried about Graves's past associations, including his connection to a former detective involved in a fatal case, and they fear his hiring signals a pattern of how the university protects marginalized students; they want a reassessment of the decision and accountability from campus leadership.
