Welcome to Unsinkable, an intense look at the cultural history of Titanic and its era. The history of the ship is laden with: women, people of color, families that have spoken up and lived out loud to leave a legacy we cannot ignore. The past is present and the future. We cannot make the mistakes of our ancestors.

I loved the first several episodes of this podcast. The host is knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. She goes a bit heavy about the 1997 movie, but I realize that this is most listeners’ point of entry into the field. Unfortunately, the podcast oddly veers into the occult and subjects that have very little to do with the Titanic. Keep to the matter at hand and ditch the rest.
The content is rich and the host's knowledge and academic background extensive. I want to give this show a 5 because of the topics she attempts to cover. However the story gets lost in her tangential ramblings and drive to present her narrative through her lens. The interviews too can be painful because she interrupts and answers her own questions. Way too wordy, but usually something interesting comes out by the end (after much preamble).
LA evidently puts in a huge amount of time researching and there is so much to learn from what she uncovers. Added to this are her own personal perspectives and her appreciation of the cultural impact of Titanic, either interesting guests. I’ve listened to almost every episode and am looking forward to delving deeper into a broader slice of history.
“As a historian,” this host thinks the best move is to team up with folks profiting from re-sinking the Titanic forever in VR while also improperly handling and labeling artifacts? I’m sorry, but that partnership is gross. Imagine any other memorial featuring VR goggles and haphazardly placed artifacts from a mass gravesite. Perhaps LA should remind listeners again about her moral issues with RMST / removing artifacts from the wreck site while she’s shilling these tourist expediences in the Bibl... more
