  • Well Worth Your Time.

This show is superb. I love movie music. Ever since Star Wars in 1978 (UK) I’ve been collecting and listening to popular soundtrack albums, going to concerts and chatting with like minded friends about film scores. But I don’t have a musical background, can’t play an instrument and so podcasts like Underscore really help to fill in my knowledge gaps. Every episode well researched and professionally presented and extensive in scope! Boy do I need to make more time available to catch up as I’ve on... more

  • Incredible Is An Understatement

Though episodes have gotten few and far between, when a new one shows up, I listen no matter what. One of my favorite music-related podcasts in existence.

  • The best without question

For a long time, I resisted writing a review because I love this podcast so much I felt I couldn’t do it justice. On a personal level, I feel like I know these guys - they remind me of me and my brother and our taste in movies. On a professional level, this is the most thoughtful and best produced film music podcast out there, hands down. Marty and Will bring classroom-level analyzation to their discussions, and a pure joy for the medium that is so engaging -- even though I can’t understand most... more

  • Brilliant analyses

These guys are a marvelous team, perhaps this could be the strongest of their podcasts, but who's counting? Love these guys, and love their work. They're smart, funny, and lovely to listen to. That being said, this is a podcast for the hardcore knowledgable, probably not for the casual listener; this is a lot of analyses and history of theoretical concepts, whereas their other main podcast is about listening and enjoying. If you're into theory and concepts, this is a great podcast for you.

  • They love the sound of their own voices.

While obviously enthusiastic and knowledgeable (to a fault), the hosts of this show TALK INCESSANTLY over the music. I kept a stopwatch on hand as I listened and found that there is NOT TEN SECONDS OF UNNARRATED MUSIC to be found anywhere. Seriously guys, let the music breathe. We listen in to hear it and some intelligent analysis and discussion from you, not hyper descriptive narration. I would point you in the direction of Art Of The Score. In that podcast there are THREE music professionals a... more

  • Entertaining and Interesting

I'm fairly new to this podcast but I already love it. It goes into a lot of technical detail on music theory but, whether you've studied music theory or not (I have but I'm not very good at it), it's still inclusive and interesting. The two hosts ahve really done their research and the "spotting session" episodes that involve scene by scene, cue by cue, analysis, are a lot of fun. Well worth checking out if you love movie soundtracks. You're bound to learn something new!
