A successful podcast needs good audio. You obviously love the subject matter, please address the audio.
What I love about this podcast is the variety of people interviewed, from clothiers to authors. Also, it just goes to show the community that is out there, where pirates can gather and pillage and plunder all year. There’s something for everyone out there!
Phil's passion for the history of pirates shines through in very episode! He is a talented interviewer, and brings a great personality to this show!
The interviews are fun and informative. This is like a biography of sorts covering a wide variety. Anything from pirate actors to clothing companies to researchers and on. I look forward to the next podcast every week! And Phil IS hilarious! ❤️👏🏻
If you like for the podcaster to waste the first third of his time telling you where he has performed lately or hearing him describe a boring plane flight, by all means, waste your precious time here. After that, there might be one or two minutes that are interesting, provided he has a good guest – but most are not. Please, I beg you, go for a walk, take a nap, or get a sandwich.
Funny interesting and informative. Love the topic and show!!
Phil does a perfect job of listening and allowing great ideas and truths come to the surface! Subscribe and learn all you can about pirates, life and the road! Thanks again Phil!

Ain't nothing like a Pirate Booty! Phil is really funny and a talented musician and UTC is really fun.
I discovered Under the Crossbones thanks to a friend, and I have found the interviews both informative and entertaiining about the world of pirates and those who bring the Golden Age of Piracy to life either through their hobbies or professions. Phil is a natural interviewer, and you can tell how much he cares about the topics he is discussing. I have tuned in for each of the episodes, and I look forward to those to come. A true fan.
Found you via Twitter, sorry I am a late arrival but here now, love the show
Great Podcast! This is an interview type podcast, and Phil is a skillful interviewer. His natural flow and progression make the conversation so fluid and casual, it's like meeting the guests in person. If you like pirates or even just like creative people, this will be you're go to podcast.
I've loved pirates for a while and I love this podcast simple as that
This is such a great podcast. It perfectly straddles the line of informative and entertaining. The interviews are fun and insightful, the comedy is hilarious, and the music is a treat. Phil Johnson does a perfect job of conducting the interviews and setting up the material. I regularly listen to about 20 different podcasts. If there's one podcast I would sorely miss, it would be this one.
I am a huge fan of Under The Crossbones. I've always enjoyed history podcasts and created the History Of Pirates Podcast myself. Glad to see Phil has the same love of pirates, that many others do. Interesting interviews and information. Well done and keep up the great work !!
I was seeking another podcast in the pirate world. I found this thanks to the history of pirates podcast. This is an awesome podcast. Great interviews followed by music and comedy. Great job!
