Reviews

3.6 out of 5 stars from 8.5k ratings
  • perfect but very erratic in updating

This would be a five star review except that every few days, the podcast will appear to go on a break, which is your prerogative. The problem is there are actually no breaks, and it’s updating daily on the Youtube feed only, and not on any of the podcast platforms. It might seem to you guys like Youtube is a more accessible platform but it’s actually not, unless a user subscribes and pays Google for premium YT, there are too many ads to make such long form videos easy to watch, and making them v... more

  • Yellow card

Odd Editorialising in the show from the 9th of June. Aaron Bastani saying people in Northern Ireland are “entitled” to feel terrified and to blame the government when describing an “attack” that we still don’t have context for. I’ve had a few concerns about some of the things I’ve heard. This is a yellow card from me.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Burnham Stakes Early Grace On Fixing Broken Care System
Q: What is the core idea behind Burnham's care proposals?
To explore a national care service or hybrid funding model that could stabilize funding for social care through taxes, levies, or cross-party talks, while addressing the current system's inequities.
Andy Burnham Accepts Labour Leadership
Q: Paul, what did you make of that?
Paul Holden regarded that part of Burnham's speech as the strongest and most substantive, offering a diagnosis of society and neoliberalism, while noting that the rest sounded like typical Labour boilerplate unless accompanied by concrete policy shifts.
Naomi Klein on Heatwaves, China, and the Danger of Technofixes
Q: What are the risks of geoengineering?
The conversation emphasizes governance challenges, ethical concerns, and possible hydrological impacts, arguing that deployment would likely be unequal and dangerous if not controlled by a truly global, democratic, and accountable framework.
Naomi Klein on Heatwaves, China, and the Danger of Technofixes
Q: What would a viable Green New Deal look like today?
A program that directly lowers everyday costs (energy, transit), creates visible jobs, and builds strong public infrastructure, similar to the original New Deal but adapted to today's realities and leveraging mass communication to mobilize support rather than relying solely on market mechanisms.
Naomi Klein on Heatwaves, China, and the Danger of Technofixes
Q: Is China the new protagonist in climate politics?
Yes, Klein notes that China's renewable cost reductions and domestic activism have altered the global climate narrative, shifting the focus away from Western-only solutions and showing that state-led development can drive lower costs even as coal remains in play.
