  • A must listen for all jumpers!

I can tell these guys know what they’re talking about and I’m on the verge of opening my wallet to them lol. Binging this pod right now and look forward to more content! One thing I’d like to hear more of from guests is: height/weight check, age, some of their early jumping history (ie: did they grow up active or sedentary, playing sports etc…?). Keep up the great work fellas!

  • A Real One

John Evans is a talker but he is earnest, humble and knows his stuff. He is and has always been a sponge but knows how to synthesize information and apply it. Continued success John, happy to see how far you’ve come and that you broke away from Athletic Lab.

The Worst Sports To Jump Higher
Q: Are there any sports that inherently translate well to jumping higher?
Basketball and volleyball stand out due to their jumping demands and movement variety, providing better cross-over into jump performance than many other disciplines; track and field also offers carryover, but with varying impact depending on the specific events.
The Worst Sports To Jump Higher
Q: What is the worst modality for improving your vertical jump?
High Rocks, distance running, and powerlifting are criticized as the least effective for jump improvement because they emphasize endurance or slow strength without fast, elastic, or plyometric work, leading to poor transfer to jumping.
We Asked This 50 Inch Jumper Difficult Questions
Q: Does power clean during the week give you any predictor for a good jump day?
Pretty good indicator; the lift quality and how I feel during the week correlates with jump performance, though not perfectly.
We Asked This 50 Inch Jumper Difficult Questions
Q: Okay, what specifically? Use your words.
The body's response comes through the warm-up; I notice a lift with less effort and a sense of readiness that correlates with higher jumps that day.
We Asked This 50 Inch Jumper Difficult Questions
Q: All right, first question, Mr. Rivera, how do you know in your bones that you're gonna jump high? Do you feel it in your skin, as Stephen Selle would say?
Warm-ups reliably cue Jordan's readiness; when I'm warmed up, I feel a clear lift with lower effort, and the half-effort jump often reveals how high I'll rise with less energy, which serves as a practical predictor.
