Some stories are just to strange to be fiction, and that was the case 100 years ago LAST week when Sister Aimee McPherson held an impromptu rivival at the ballpark in Douglas, Arizona, days after her miraculous reappearance following six weeks of...s... more
In truth, the boys could have picked an actual topic this week, but the randomizer was just sitting there in the office, looking so tempting. So Mike and Bill pushed it and came up with this September 16, 1914 contest between the Cincinnati Reds and ... more

Similar to Red Sox pitcher Jim Burton in the ‘75 series, Mike was noticeably rusty in a return to action marred by numerous mispronunciations (Geronimo, Drago, Benitez) as well as misidentifying Boston’s manager as “Williams?”
I can barely hear one of the hosts while the other I hear fine. On both new and old episodes. How can I be the only one who notices?
I listen to this almost every week and like the format and Mike and Bill very much. Well researched and delivered. If I had any constructive criticism, I guess Bill is a soft speaker and I sometimes have difficulty hearing him if there is any background noise (like walking in NYC!).
Keep it up, boys!

I’ve been listening to the show for awhile now, and generally enjoy the content. But the virtue signaling has reached eye-rolling proportions. Every time there’s a nickname or situation that was acceptable or common in the first half of the 20th Century we’re treated to a haughty, finger-waving lecture on the moral superiority of our times and perhaps more importantly, the hosts themselves. It gets old.

A history-focused deep-dive show led by two baseball historians who explore the sport's past with thorough research, storytelling, and thoughtful context. Episodes cover legendary players, pivotal teams, and forgotten chapters, often pairing biographical sketches with broader cultural and organizational themes in baseball. Notable strengths include well-researched narratives, a respectful, adult tone, and niche topics that appeal to hardcore baseball history fans; occasional critiques center on sound quality and moments where social commentary feels foregrounded. This program is likely to appeal to listeners who crave detailed historical context, primary-source-style storytelling, and conversations that balance nostalgia with critical refle... more
