  • Legacy Media Propaganda

Wow. I can’t believe my tax dollars pay for this. I live on Vancouver Island and have always had this podcast in my news. But in the past few weeks they’ve covered some political issues I’m very informed on. The left-wing bias is stunning. I’ll continue listening so I can debunk the misinformation my friends and family are getting from this.

  • Our Island or Province ?

Based on your ads for this program I was hoping for very local Island coverage, but, alas, it’s mostly provincial. Salmon? Forestry? Where are the issues actual listeners are actually concerned with - unwanted glass towers going up in our neighborhoods, intrusive bike lanes in Victoria where most of the population will never bicycle, huge increases in noise and traffic and loss of green spaces in places we chose to live for their peace and quiet. Please consider refocussing to local issues.

  • hmm

The audio ad for this show talks about how other BC shows centre Vancouver, claims "we do things differently," and immediately shares 3 examples from south of Cowichan Valley. Not so different after all, if the ad is anything to go by.

  • BCTF advertising is disappointing

Good podcast, but offensive to hear paid advertising by the BCTF interspersed in this podcast episode on education

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why ferries get cancelled on (seemingly) clear days
Q: Why do last-minute cancellations still happen even on days that look calm from shore?
Coastal weather is highly local and can change quickly; forecasts are imperfect, wind at sea vs. at the docks can differ, and the captain's experience is crucial in interpreting real-time conditions.
Why ferries get cancelled on (seemingly) clear days
Q: How does BC Ferries deal with uncertainty in forecasted weather conditions affecting sailings?
They use a color-coded Operations Limitation Matrix combined with input from Environment Canada forecasters and the captain's own observations, with decisions guided by safety and capability, and often require last-minute judgments to balance risk and service.
Langford tackles local frustration with construction noise
Q: What does the new bylaw require regarding consent for rock crushing near occupied residences?
It requires express written consent from every residence within 100 metres, and consent must be unanimous, with penalties and enforcement tied to ensuring compliance and addressing complaints.
What’s raining on Greater Victoria’s parades?
Q: And how are volunteers being affected by these changes?
Volunteer shortages and fatigue are significant; volunteer-driven organizations are being asked to operate with professional-level standards, which is challenging without sustained funding and support.
What’s raining on Greater Victoria’s parades?
Q: Okay. And so what was the immediate repercussion? Was it just that this would be more expensive, Sandy? You'd need more police and safety precautions and so on, or was it something more fundamental about how safety is treated for parades like this?
The immediate repercussion is that we have to reassess routes, access ways, and coordination with Oak Bay PD and the municipality to ensure safety without compromising access for participants, which may raise costs and complexity.
