  • Great pod, need more questions of Jason

Love the show especially the local politics focus. I want to say I love the Jason Proctor stories too, but they are rather complicated and the listener would greatly benefit from Stephen chiming in with questions and the odd mini-explanation. The VPD one in particular had me lost pretty quickly

  • Not catching my attention

I really want to love this podcast but despite listening to multiple episodes, I am having a hard time engaging with it. Not sure, if it’s the host, interviewees or the subject, it’s very blah to me. Average at best

Who really wins hosting the World Cup?
Q: Is there a practical path to making World Cup hosting more democratic for ordinary people?
One potential path is public voting on hosting decisions and ensuring a portion of the proceeds or ticket allocations benefit local communities, rather than concentrating benefits among a few elites.
Who really wins hosting the World Cup?
Q: How do sports-washing concerns color the discussion around hosting the World Cup?
Sports washing is framed as a mechanism by which leaders use mega-events to legitimize their regimes, which raises ethical questions about the funding, accessibility, and democratic process of hosting such tournaments.
Who really wins hosting the World Cup?
Q: What makes the 2026 World Cup different for Canada compared to past tournaments?
Canada is at a peak moment with co-hosting as an opportunity to grow the sport domestically, but success hinges on building depth and infrastructure while navigating the high costs and controversy associated with FIFA.
Wait, how much will the World Cup cost Vancouver?
Q: What is the latest projected total cost for hosting the World Cup games in Vancouver?
The updated projection places the net hosting cost around $100 million after revenues, with total costs and security driving most of the expense, and revenues coming from hotel taxes and federal contributions among other sources.

Q: Do you think Vancouver is ready to host the World Cup?
The interviewees and reporters reflect mixed views, with some saying Vancouver has been preparing and is ready, while others express concerns about crowds, traffic disruption, and whether the city will fully benefit.
