Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#2610 - Experiencing God: Jon M. Sweeney
Q: Your writing style mixes other voices and traditions; how did you decide which broader conversations to bring into dialogue with Francis?
I intentionally braided discussions with thinkers like Heschel, Ticknott Hahn, Gandhi, and Jungian ideas to illuminate universal spiritual questions, making Francis's insights more accessible across faiths and cultures.
#2610 - Experiencing God: Jon M. Sweeney
Q: Could you talk about how you conceived the structure of the 36 Paths and how you selected the episodes from Francis's life?
I drew from early biographies and traditional stories, then revisited them with fresh eyes to see where experiences of God occurred—moments of prayer, interaction with animals, and acts of mercy—so the book could present a practical, experience-based map rather than a mere biography.
