Thank you Lee for both podcasts. They make me think, they stretch my mind, they grow my Christianity. They are so good. Keep at it.

  • I look forward to listening every week!

This podcast is a perfect blend of deep, insightful conversations about key cultural issues, combined with silly and playful humor that will bring you joy and make you smile every time you listen. The combination of Lee and Savannah is absolutely perfect! It’s like if Gandalf from Lord of the Rings started a podcast with Glinda from Wicked. They are so fun together and they both think deeply about important issues and always challenge me and stretch me while making me laugh at the same time! Tha... more

  • A favorite

No small endeavor is one of my favorite podcasts. A wide variety of interesting guests and conversations, led by curiosity and vulnerability from the host. Not a huge fan of the subtext as I’m not really clear on the object of the conversation or the contrasting pairing of the two hosts. I can’t get past Savannah’s hugely irritating cadence and tone.

  • If You’re Not Worried, You Aren’t Paying Attention

I found Camp’s comments to be glib, condescending, rude and not helpful.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

254: Laurie Santos: The Science of Happiness (and How We Get It Wrong)
Q: How can we translate happiness science into daily practice?
Focus on small, habitual changes like social connection, gratitude, sleep, and time affluence; build habits that reinforce intrinsic motivation, and use mindset shifts like self-compassion and radical acceptance to convert knowledge into action.
254: Laurie Santos: The Science of Happiness (and How We Get It Wrong)
Q: What is miswanting and how does it affect our happiness?
Miswanting is the idea that our beliefs about what will make us happy are often wrong; forecasts about happiness based on circumstances do not match actual happiness, as people often overestimate the impact of positive events and underestimate the effect of negative ones.
208: Unabridged Interview: Michele Norris
Q: How did The Race Card Project begin and evolve?
It started as a simple six-word invitation to talk about race and grew into a nationwide archive that forced people to confront their own beliefs and the diverse realities of others, creating space for uncomfortable but essential conversations.
254: Unabridged Interview: Laurie Santos
Q: Can you explain the GI Joe fallacy and why knowing something isn't enough to change behavior?
Knowing is only the first step; without putting that knowledge into practice, change stalls. Real progress comes from translating insights into concrete, ongoing actions and developing practical wisdom that adapts to real-life situations.
254: Unabridged Interview: Laurie Santos
Q: How do we handle the danger of instrumentalizing happiness practices for our own gain?
The risk is doing good for the sake of personal payoff, which can erode genuine kindness and backfire emotionally. The solution is to keep the practice rooted in genuine concern for others, use compassion as a coach for behavior, and ensure actions align with deeper values rather than purely self-serving goals.
