  • If it wasn't for Sarah...

I'd never listen to this show again after John's rather pathetic, apologetic, and obsequious defence of Grange La Chappelle. Sadly, free speech is under threat so he is entitled to his views but it struck me as what I always find an issue with wine critics, they can never criticise anything with a reputation in their industry.

  • From what are we running from?

I find the 10mn Masterclass to be interesting, but I don’t get the concept. Why are we feeling like we gotta run for our lives? Can’t we do 12 or 15mn and all have a better time? And that freaking “1-minute left bell” ! For the love of God, don’t put it right next to your microphone! I almost had a heart attack! The sound quality is somewhat mediocre, so we have to put the volume up. And then, you get scared to death by a useless loud bell. Jesus effin’ Christ… You ought to rethink this format, ... more

  • Great info, presentation is a bit juvenile

I really love the information and depth of knowledge in this podcast, but I just can’t get past the presenter’s delivery at times. He lapses into silly and juvenile voices frequently, which is really distracting.

  • Brilliantly informative and interesting

I’ve been collecting wine since my student days (50 years ago), clarets at the beginning, now mostly Burgundy. Made lots of mistakes but learned lots along the way too. So how does an “old git” like me rate this podcast so highly? Well Sarah brilliantly puts each session together, engages with her guest, and covers exactly the content making an informative and interesting session. I have particularly enjoyed her 10min Masterclasses with Jane Anson and her sessions on Saint Julien, Pauillac and M... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

▻ Value Burgundy with Jasper Morris MW
Q: Are there any appellations outside the Cote d'Or we should be looking for?
Yes, there are three larger regions to explore outside the Cote d'Or, with Chambly and the broader north offering relatively affordable options, and continued value in the Côte Chalonnaise and Maconnais, where cooperative efforts and smaller producers deliver good quality at lower prices.
▻ The Story of the Judgement of Paris – Part III
Q: Do you remember what it was like on the tasting day, and do you have any recollections of the day?
Patricia recounts a scene of people wandering around happily, followed by champagne and a sense of relief that the wines had shown well, while also anticipating the press impact that could follow.
▻ What Will Make The Bordeaux 2025 Campaign A Success
Q: So what do you think it will take to make 25 a success?
The key will be unlocking end collector demand by ensuring the 25s are more attractive on release than comparable back vintages, and by showcasing vintages like 2016 or 2019 as reference points while navigating a market that has become more cautious and price-sensitive.
▻ Drops of God
Q: What were the big differences between season one and season two in terms of coaching the cast and shaping the wine narrative?
Season one focused on introducing wine to neophytes and establishing wine as a character; season two involved deeper script input, more precise wine choices, location decisions, and closer collaboration with writers to ensure the wine dialogue and scenarios felt authentic while still serving the story.
▻ Drops of God
Q: How did your background influence the way you approached the Drops of God project, and what did you bring to the writers and actors?
I brought hands-on experience from running wine businesses and restaurants, plus a deep practical knowledge of tasting and vineyard realities, which helped shape scenes, wine dialogues, and character coaching; I also helped pick wines and locations to reflect realism and storytelling goals.
