  • Love this podcast!

This is such a good podcast. Always great information and topics. Dave makes it easy to understand and I love the added humour. Added bonus being a Canadian podcast, it can be challenging listening to financial advice from a podcast in the states as there are many differences. 10/10 would recommend!! 👍🏼😊

  • Morgan Housel episode is where it’s at!

Having heard all esteemed guests so far, Morgan’s episode hit so well with him; a passionate communicator, way to explain a financial or personal scenario…I am huge Dave Chilton fan, even from Dragon Dens days, and throughly enjoy all the content including the books I have. Thanks for everything you do Dave and thanks for who you’re!

  • Meaningful Finance Talk

Host is concise, witty and kind. Discussion with the first guest was a pleasure to listen to. Humanity thrives from such non-threatening, authentic banter. Thank you for the gift of hope and please know that some of us are trying to do the same in our day to day life.

  • Trusts

Great information. Could you please expand on the use of trusts once they’re in place for a child who cannot manage inheritance? How do they work ongoing and what are the fees? Is it done by the corporate executor?

You also mentioned using trusts to protect an inheritance received by an adult child in the event of divorce. Could you please talk more specifically about that too?

Thanks for all the knowledge you share.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#50 — Ben Felix (Returns): Investing Insights and Rapid-Fire Q&A
Q: What behavioral traps should DIY investors guard against?
Overconfidence can make people think they can beat the market, while pessimism can cause them to miss out on long-term opportunity; both biases undermine steady, rational investing over time.
#50 — Ben Felix (Returns): Investing Insights and Rapid-Fire Q&A
Q: Do you ever try market timing yourself given your access to data and tools?
Even with powerful tools, market timing is not reliable; you're competing against the collective knowledge of all investors, and attempts to time the market often fail to improve outcomes over long horizons.
#50 — Ben Felix (Returns): Investing Insights and Rapid-Fire Q&A
Q: Can you quickly describe why trading options is often a bad strategy for retail investors?
Selling calls or engaging in option strategies tends to cap upside potential and, over long horizons, underperforms the underlying equities after considering income distributions and fees, making it a less favorable approach for most investors.
#50 — Ben Felix (Returns): Investing Insights and Rapid-Fire Q&A
Q: What is the basic misunderstanding about dividends?
Dividends are not investment returns because they come with a reduced stock price; viewing dividends as free money leads to biased expectations and often to poor allocation like chasing high-yield dividend strategies without considering factor exposures.
#50 — Ben Felix (Returns): Investing Insights and Rapid-Fire Q&A
Q: You produced a video a while ago about 10 mistakes that investors often make. Can you give us two that jump out at you?
Not taking enough risk stands out as a major error, because underexposure to equities can lead to substantial long-term wealth costs, while many people also keep money in cash or bonds when stocks offer higher expected returns.
