  • Love this pod

I’ve been listening to Wall Street skinny for awhile now and it’s become one of my favorite podcasts - a must listen. I am an attorney working in the finance industry without much finance background and I feel that Kristen and Jen have helped me educate myself on areas of finance outside my specific practice area. Their insights are great, content is interesting and they make it accessible.

How Spotify Turned a Free Product into a $100 Billion Company
Q: Can I monetize through Spotify if I'm an independent artist without a big label deal?
Yes. Spotify supports independent artists via distribution partners who publish songs to the platform with relatively small cuts, and the vast majority of the 70% of revenue paid out goes to rights holders, including artists depending on their contract. This creates a path to earnings for indie creators even without a major label.
Hedge Funds Want the Equity in Your Home, feat. Tacora Capital Founder Keri Findley
Q: What scales have Tacora's investments reached and what is the current scope of their operations?
Tacora has grown to roughly $1.5 billion in assets under management, originated from venture-backed assets, and uses HEI-like structures to buy or finance assets tied to home ownership, with ongoing expansion across states as regulations allow.
Hedge Funds Want the Equity in Your Home, feat. Tacora Capital Founder Keri Findley
Q: Who can access HEIs and is it limited to high-credit or particular types of borrowers?
The discussion indicates a broad potential applicant base, noting that many borrowers who can't qualify for HELOCs due to credit constraints or FICO requirements may still access HEIs, though regulatory and market constraints vary by state and individual circumstances.
Hedge Funds Want the Equity in Your Home, feat. Tacora Capital Founder Keri Findley
Q: What exactly is a Home Equity Investment Option (HEI) and how does it differ from a HELOC or traditional debt?
HEI involves the homeowner selling a share of future equity in their home for a lump sum today, without monthly payments, and with a defined mechanism to settle later based on the future value of that equity. Unlike HELOCs, there are no ongoing debt payments, and unlike pure debt, the investor takes on equity upside and downside risk.
GameStop Just Bid $56 Billion for eBay. What is ACTUALLY Going On????
Q: Kristen, can you break it down for us because I am utterly perplexed.
Kristen explains the basic math: if the offer is $125 per share with roughly 440 million shares, the equity value is around $56 billion; about half would need cash, implying $28 billion in liquid funds, which is problematic given GameStop's small cash cushion and the added debt commitments necessary to support the transaction.
