  • Good interviews, BUT…

The interviews are really interesting, so there’s that. The interviewer seems to know his stuff, so there’s also that. Here’s the issue for me, and it almost makes the pod unlistenable: the interviewer has some vocal

habits that are distracting and annoying, big time. The most annoying one is, “like”. Check a transcript (paraphrasing): “Like, here’s something that I’ve wondered. Like, how did you come up with that like, group of particular keyboard sounds? They really, like, cut through in the m... more

  • “Like”

The interviewer overuses the word “like” so much I had to shut it off. 🤢

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols
Q: How did you approach revisiting the Pistols' history for the film, especially with the others who contributed?
He explains that the project gathered perspectives from friends and peers, highlighting the dynamic memories and the evolving narrative of the band, while he remains focused on the core experiences and the ongoing relevance of their story.
Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols
Q: What was it like turning the book into a documentary and having it filmed?
Matlock describes feeling initially uneasy about being filmed, the process of edits, and discovering that the documentary offered a different twist on his story, which ultimately felt authentic and worthwhile.
Thomas Dolby
Q: How did the experience of collaborating with iconic artists from the Grateful Dead era influence your approach to making records and performing live?
He describes the meeting of minds as a rare and inspiring clash of approaches, where the Dead brought a live improvisational sensibility that contrasted with his studio-centric, Precision-driven process, yet ultimately enriched his understanding of live dynamics and the potential for cross-pollination in his own work.
Thomas Dolby
Q: What can you share about the secret project you're working on and how it fits with your touring show?
Dolby indicates that the project is ambitious and will be revealed on a later date, emphasizing a hybrid approach that combines band performance with orchestral elements and storytelling from his 80s-era career, suggesting a multi-faceted production rather than a straight-ahead concert. He also notes that parts of the show function as a proof of concept while keeping specifics under wraps until the proper unveiling.
Jon Anderson
Q: What was the process like making Elias and implementing the multi-track approach?
Jon described a painstaking process of layering multiple tapes and instruments, managing synchronization across eight to eight-plus tracks, and a breakthrough moment when the sequence finally came together in time.
