  • A great way to spend some time

I first learned of this podcast from Faulkner’s Instagram and have been savoring the episodes. The focus on only the important women is fascinating and provides a more biographical look at each of these women. If you love history or just need a fun break this is a great choice.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Anne Boleyn: Reputation, Revolution, Religion, and the Queen Who Changed History with Martha Tatarnic
Q: What was the inspiration for writing this book?
The author sought to reclaim Anne Boleyn's role as a reformer and leader, highlighting her religious principles and impact rather than just sensational labels, and to explore how historic narratives about women can be reframed through examination of evidence.
The House of Boleyn with Professor Tracy Borman
Q: If you could ask Anne Boleyn one question, what would it be and why?
The author's imagined question to Anne centers on her thoughts about her daughter Elizabeth, as a lens to explore Anne's personal motivations and the human side behind the historical narratives, highlighting how personal relationships shaped public outcomes.
The House of Boleyn with Professor Tracy Borman
Q: How did you decide what to fictionalise and what to keep true to history?
She describes preserving the core chronology from known history to maintain credibility, using author's notes to explain deviations, and foregrounding new fictional characters (like Esther) to flesh out daily life while keeping upstairs events faithful to the era.
The House of Boleyn with Professor Tracy Borman
Q: What was the research process like for this novel?
Borman explains that writing fiction about a well-known historical period demands a deep, ongoing research process, combining established historical sources with social-history insights, so the Hever setting feels authentic while allowing room for imaginative reconstruction where sources are silent.
Capturing a Queen: The Image of Anne Boleyn with Dr Owen Emmerson
Q: Where did the inspiration for this research project come from?
The project crystallized about four years ago, built on a long-standing curatorial interest in Anne Boleyn's portraits and the need to recover lost provenance after a flood; the aim was to reexamine how images were created and used, not just what Anne looked like.
