Season 2 of The Syria Trials tracks the story of Brigadier General Khaled al-Halabi. Over 11 episodes, we tell the story of Halabi’s work within the Syrian intelligence system, his role in violently suppressing the peaceful Revolution and his escape to Europe, after his city fell out of regime control. Throughout the series, we’re asking two key questions: who is Halabi and why hasn’t he been arre... more

An amazing two seasons of in-depth coverage of efforts to get justice for the people of Syria, and no less relevant despite the fall of the Assad regime. Also a damning indictment of the slowness of countries like Austria which have failed to prosecute war criminals on their territory. I assume there won’t be another series, which is really sad - I’ve learned so much.
A must listen for everyone who wants to understand the Syrian plight
As someone with connections to Syria who has followed the events there even as they’ve fallen out of mainstream coverage, this podcast casts a light on a completely new area - the amazingly valiant efforts of so many dedicated campaigners outside Syria to seek formal justice. It’s well told and extremely interesting.
I read a book about Syria and the war there up to about 2017. I wanted to know what happened next, more about the countless victims in this epicenter of geopolitical, religious and secterial war. This is an important podcast, I think, for everyone whos interested in knowing about the conflicts that were played out in Syria and that still has wide repurcussions for the region - and th... more
