  • Excellent, Practical Advice

Nick does a terrific job of articulating his argument im favour of “unsexy” business.

The advice he provides is an excellent mix of high-level strategic concepts and practical, tactical advice.

His book is also terrific as well. Highly recommend.

  • Had to unsubscribe for the ads

I like the content, but you can tell this podcast is just Nick riffing off something for 10 minutes for content and then a bunch of ads

  • Practical advice

I’ve been following Nick on several different platforms for a few years now. I really appreciate his insight and bluntness to business, as a owner of a tree care company I can’t relate 100% to what he says, but I can’t relate to a lot. He’s someone whose advice I consider strongly even if it’s not directly given to me.

  • Run of the mill

Seems like it’s the same generic information that all these types say and us the right office work jargon. Seems like he’s a bit disingenuous and looks down on the average person/employee and sees them as disposable.

Why Sales and Simple Service Businesses Still Win in Entrepreneurship
Q: When is the right time to hire someone to take over a task you're doing now?
As soon as you're not spending 25% of your working hours on growth-related activities, you should delegate, which means hiring for tasks like sales, marketing, and operations that contribute to long-term growth.
Building Through Chaos: Raising Capital, Buying Somewhere, and Betting on Global Talent
Q: How did you convert your teams to a performance-driven structure after acquiring Somewhere?
We introduced commission-based pay across sales and recruiters, built a robust funnel with 20 lead-source categories tracked in Power BI, and set up real-time AI alerts to address dissatisfactions, which improved overall productivity and accountability.
Building Through Chaos: Raising Capital, Buying Somewhere, and Betting on Global Talent
Q: What made you decide to explore South Africa as a core part of your sales strategy?
Seeing higher close rates and the ability to hire high-caliber closers at a fraction of U.S. costs convinced us the model could scale; we tested by hiring a CRO from Somewhere.com who built a 15-person team in South Africa and started outperforming U.S.-based reps.
Irrational Confidence, Extreme Ownership and Building Real Leverage
Q: What's the practical approach to building leverage for a growing business or solopreneur?
Leverage starts small, like hiring an international employee for basic tasks to free up time for higher-value work, and scales to creating systems and networks that prevent one person or partner from derailing the business. The ultimate leverage is achieving independence from detrimental actors through diversified assets and strong processes.
Irrational Confidence, Extreme Ownership and Building Real Leverage
Q: What can you tell us about overcoming doubt when pursuing your own path to success?
The guest emphasizes that many competent people earn significant money despite insecurities, and he himself relies on irrational confidence. He uses fear-setting to map out worst-case scenarios, tests his plans on paper, and then moves forward with a plan to mitigate those risks.
