  • Great exalted actual play with some other shorter arcs of different systems. Good overviews of many more niche systems from the point of view of people who are invested in them.

  • Great for beginners to RPGs

A very charming show with great hosts about gaming. I like it especially as someone who is still learning more and more about the RPG world.

  • Engaging and Informative

The show covers a number of different gaming topics, only some of which I’m interested in - specifically Exalted RPG. I’ve listened to a few of the other episodes and they’re interesting, but I’m not the target audience for them. With that in mind, my comments here will be, primarily, about the Exalted episodes.

    In short, they’re great.

It is, predominantly, an actual play show, and the cast is engaging, diverse, fun, and they really put the effort in to deliver thoughtful and nuanced charact... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 174: Fabula Ultima
Q: Could you define the difference between a JRPG and a Western RPG, Logan?
Logan and Griffin discuss how JRPGs blend intimate character arcs with large-scale crises, often pausing the action for emotional beats, and leveraging a cast from a world with sequenced, melodramatic storytelling, while Western RPGs tend to emphasize open-world exploration and a different balance between story and mechanics.
Episode 179: Miniature Mania
Q: What is the benefit of using miniatures in D&D over theater of the mind?
Miniatures help players visualize space and positioning on a grid or mapped area, which clarifies tactical options and spatial relationships, while also supporting a shared mental model for the group.
Episode 181: Metro Otherscape
Q: What were Olivia's first thoughts about Metro Otherscape and how does it compare to City of Mist?
Olivia notes that the game streamlines the City of Mist engine, emphasizes tag-based play, and broadens narrative possibilities beyond noir detective work, allowing space for cyberpunk and mythic storytelling to coexist.
Episode 180: Epistolary Games
Q: How do Lighthouse and DFI differ in terms of player experience and mechanics?
Lighthouse is introspective and more accessible with smaller mechanics, while DFI is more complex, deity-focused, and world-building heavy, driving the journaling through its rules.
Episode 180: Epistolary Games
Q: What makes journaling games appealing compared to more traditional RPGs?
They emphasize storytelling, solitude, and personal reflection, letting players explore character and world through journaling rather than being tied to table rules.
