  • Good Podcast

This is a very good podcast. The content is good and the subject matter expertise is strong. My only critique would be that this group has an element of elitism where they ignore elements of the RPG community and only cover the things THEY think are cool (e.g., they are Daggerheart and Draw Steel fanboys but totally ignore other successful games like Shadowdark). Finally, one cast member over talks everyone else multiple times per episode - be better.

  • Great Info and Discussions

I am just getting back into D & D with the new 2024 ed., and this show provides great info on the new material. The folks offer a good blend of discussion and debate without getting too far into the minutia of D & D. Also, I agree with them that AI is terrible. : )

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#240. How to Transform D&D Adventure Modules to Other Settings!
Q: What makes a good one-shot that can be dropped into an ongoing campaign?
Focus on a strong sample of one puzzle, a meaningful combat or two, and crucially include a mystery or hook that invites players back for more, so the adventure feels like a natural entry point rather than a standalone side quest.
#231. D&D Beyond FINALLY Fixes the 5.5e Confusion!
Q: How will future updates balance simplicity for new players with the complexity needed by veterans?
They plan iterative, user-tested enhancements like Quick Builder and modular features that scale with user needs, keeping the interface approachable while enabling deeper customization in the back end.
#231. D&D Beyond FINALLY Fixes the 5.5e Confusion!
Q: What practical tools are being added to Maps to improve DM prep and session documentation?
Maps will integrate DM prep tools, journals, and a unified content view to minimize tab-switching, with artifacts linked to adventures and metadata to help track what happened in sessions.
#231. D&D Beyond FINALLY Fixes the 5.5e Confusion!
Q: Why switch from 5e naming to 5.5e, and what practical changes does that bring for players?
The change clarifies which ruleset users are following and reduces confusion between older content and new core books, while making it easier to differentiate pre- and post-core-book material for play.
#223. New Year, New Co-Host, but Where's D&D in 2026?
Q: Do you know the email address for folks to email the podcast?
They would email podcast at ghostfiregaming.com.
