  • Best RPG Podcast

Mike Shea offers a variety of amazing content - his published works on DMing, his excellent articles, his terrific YouTube channel, and his podcast series on prepping for games. He is positive, constructive, and mostly objective when reporting on news and other RPG subject matter. I highly recommend consuming all of his products and offerings, including his Patreon. Great value.

  • Truly a help to present and future GMs

I have listened to many podcasts over the last few years that were focused on helping people become better Dungeon Masters. While I enjoy those as well, the Lazy RPG Podcast is truly a finely tuned GM building machine where one benefits from the vast knowledge and creativity of Mike Shea (host). The podcast gives solid advice and tricks on spending less time prepping for your games and yet also ideas to add to the quality of your presentation to your players. This allows more time for the fu... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Discord Woes – Lazy RPG Talk Show
Q: Unferth says, do you have any best known methods for conducting character creation during a session zero via Discord?
The host suggests online session zero works well with pre-gens for new players, while experienced players can co-create and learn from watching, and emphasizes patience, video and chat tools, and using visual aids to help everyone participate effectively.
We All Won – Three Years since the OGL Crisis – Lazy RPG Talk show
Q: How do you go about integrating features from multiple versions of 5e into your game?
You can homebrew various features from different versions, but be careful with character-side changes. Use GM-side modifications for temporary cases without altering the game significantly.
We All Won – Three Years since the OGL Crisis – Lazy RPG Talk show
Q: Do you have any advice for running the same campaign for two different groups at the same time?
Allow both groups to navigate their campaigns independently and note how they diverge. Cross-prep on larger components of a campaign is beneficial, but don't railroad them to follow the same path.
Not Like This – Lazy RPG Talk Show
Q: Do Legendary Actions require the use of a Dreadful Blessing too?
No, legendary actions do not require Dreadful Blessings. They are separate mechanics.
Save Dungeon Tube! – Lazy RPG Talk Show
Q: Is it bad mannered to hurry players up in D&D, or is the type of game different enough that it's more acceptable in D&D?
It's okay to hurry players up; it depends on your group and how they handle it.
