Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 345: Cysmic and a Short Topics Extravaganza
Q: What is the most expensive retail board game mentioned?
The panel cites several examples, including War of the Ring Collector's Edition and the Daybreak/Dark Star style pieces; they discuss the high end of the market and note that some items, like a fully painted War of the Ring Deluxe, can reach around $1500-$2000, with some ultra-deluxe pieces and unique editions pushing higher.
Lords of the Dungeon 87: Listener Inquiry Gallimaufry
Q: How do you balance player agency with the integrity of canonical NPCs or major figures, and can players alter key historical events in a setting?
They discuss maintaining narrative integrity while allowing meaningful player influence, including the feasibility of alternate timelines and the importance of upfront expectations and consent about canon versus reimagined histories.
Lords of the Dungeon 87: Listener Inquiry Gallimaufry
Q: What is your favorite monster or villain from any RPG setting, and what makes it memorable or terrifying in play?
The crew highlights a range of antagonists across systems (Shadowrun dragon Lothweir, Forgotten Realms' Artemis, Tarasque, dracolich) with emphasis on how their power, lore, and the moral weight of facing them shapes the game's drama and stakes.
Lords of the Dungeon 87: Listener Inquiry Gallimaufry
Q: If the Lords could choose any game setting to run themselves, which would you pick and why?
Each host shares a personal pick (Planescape, Dark Sun, Masters of the Universe, etc.), framed by nostalgia, challenge, and the desire for a rich, lore-heavy playground that offers both creative freedom and unique sensory experiences.
Lords of the Dungeon 87: Listener Inquiry Gallimaufry
Q: From Savage Spawn: Do you secretly disagree with the way the GM runs the game, and do you offer unsolicited advice or speak up during the session?
The panel discusses balancing candor with respect, noting that feedback should be given thoughtfully and preferably in a discussion setting; experienced GMs acknowledge it's natural to have opinions, but communicating them without undermining the game is key, and new GMs should invite and manage feedback to avoid derailment.
