  • Sound volume is very low

I’ve been a fan since the beginning but the sound quality is a lot lower than most podcasts. That’s a shame. Even at the highest volume, it’s sometimes not comfortable to listen to to it.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 321: “Decoding Blood Stem Cells” Featuring Dr. Vijay Sankaran
Q: Tell us about the Hot Scramble story and how it connects to translational potential.
Vijay Sankaran explains that Hot Scramble began as an unexpected finding within the human-specific HoxA transcript landscape, which they named based on Howard Chang's legacy. This long noncoding RNA acts as a stem cell regulator and helped illuminate how human-specific regulatory elements can be leveraged to understand hematopoiesis and, potentially, to guide therapeutic strategies in blood cancers and disorders.
Ep. 320: “Cancer Under Pressure” Featuring Dr. Meenal Datta
Q: Can you describe why your lab focuses on glioblastoma and how mechanical forces influence immune interactions in brain tumors?
Mechanics act as an overlooked cancer hallmark that shapes immune cell behavior and tumor progression; by understanding how solid stresses and compression affect immune and cancer cells, we can identify new therapeutic angles, including matrix remodeling and targeting mechanotransduction pathways.
Ep. 314: “ISSCR 2026: Real Discoveries, Real Collaboration, Real Potential” Featuring Drs. Fiona Doetsch & Nozomu Yachie
Q: How did you think about that overarching vision for Isscr 2026?
The key goal was to bring together both fundamental discoveries and translation into practice, ensuring diversity through new voices in the scientific community.
Ep. 313: “Cardiovascular Disease Mechanisms” Featuring Dr. Joseph Wu
Q: As a mentor, what advice would you give to trainees considering a path in industry?
Success in both academia and industry is determined by hard work, smart planning, and teamwork, which are essential qualities to thrive in any environment.
Ep. 313: “Cardiovascular Disease Mechanisms” Featuring Dr. Joseph Wu
Q: What do you think we need to do better for modeling human disease and drug discovery?
While maturation remains a challenge for iPS-derived cells, understanding pharmacology is a vital area where researchers often lack knowledge, which can impact drug translation to humans.
