  • Fantastic Show

This podcast series is fantastic. It’s a great blend of cutting edge, technology, science, and exploration. It goes deep enough to provide firm foundation of understanding the topic. But not so deep that the listener gets lost in the details specific to the given topic. Much appreciated!

  • Shallow

Not a lot of critical thinking or balanced analysis in the episode I listened to. It seemed more like cheerleading.

  • informative and fun

I have been listening to and enjoying The Future of Everything for a couple of years now. The premise of the podcast, interviewing world-class researchers on their work by an engaging and deeply informed host is fantastic. Russ does his homework by reading the interviewees’ papers ahead of the time, ask strategic questions to steer the conversations, and inject humour to lighten up the subject. I learned new things each time I listen to a podcast and would recommend it to everyone.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The future of fungi
Q: How did you start intersecting cooking with science in your career?
I moved from Sweden to pursue cooking, then discovered science as a lens to improve food; the journey led me into bioengineering to connect flavor with engineering.
Best of: The future of the universe
Q: What is the difference between dark matter and dark energy, and how do maps help us measure them?
Dark matter is a gravitational component that clumps and drives structure formation, while dark energy accelerates the expansion of the universe. Maps that combine 2D imaging and 3D spectroscopy allow us to quantify how fast the universe is expanding, how fast it clumps, and how gravity operates on the largest scales.
Best of: The future of the universe
Q: Can you explain what you mean by a map of the universe and how it yields three-dimensional information?
A map can be 2D imaging with a third dimension inferred from spectroscopy; by measuring redshifts and spectra we place structures in 3D space and, crucially, look back in time as light from distant objects takes longer to reach us, letting us reconstruct the history of cosmic structure.
Best of: The future of the universe
Q: Risa, you study the universe and the galaxies within the universe. What are the big questions that your group is struggling with these days?
We are focused on how the universe evolved from its early times to the present, what it is made of, and how galaxies formed and evolved. We rely on surveys and simulations to build a self-consistent picture of cosmic history, tying together observations across multiple wavelengths and instruments.
The future of influencers
Q: Tell me about the three players and how you came to understand them and what it means for all of us.
Christin explains three revenue pathways for influencers (brand deals, platform payments, and audience monetization) and discusses how these pathways shape creator behavior and audience relationships.
