  • Fantastic Show

This podcast series is fantastic. It’s a great blend of cutting edge, technology, science, and exploration. It goes deep enough to provide firm foundation of understanding the topic. But not so deep that the listener gets lost in the details specific to the given topic. Much appreciated!

Not a lot of critical thinking or balanced analysis in the episode I listened to. It seemed more like cheerleading.

  • informative and fun

I have been listening to and enjoying The Future of Everything for a couple of years now. The premise of the podcast, interviewing world-class researchers on their work by an engaging and deeply informed host is fantastic. Russ does his homework by reading the interviewees’ papers ahead of the time, ask strategic questions to steer the conversations, and inject humour to lighten up the subject. I learned new things each time I listen to a podcast and would recommend it to everyone.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The future of learning
Q: How do you see AI fitting into the future of learning?
AI, especially generative AI, can enhance the learning interface by interpreting dashboards, enabling natural language interactions, and allowing creators to design more effective, scalable learning experiences, while preserving human mentorship and decision-making.
The future of learning
Q: What is your current approach to thinking about the relationship between learning research and teaching practice?
Rather than a linear handoff, we should treat practitioners as collaborative researchers who generate observations in real-world learning contexts, creating a shared infrastructure to collect and analyze those observations to continuously improve both theory and practice.
Best of: The future of sleep
Q: What status do sleep medications have today, and where is the field going?
Benzodiazepines can induce sleep but don't replicate normal sleep; other drugs often fail to mimic natural sleep, and there's emphasis on improving non-pharmacologic options while exploring more targeted pharmacology with mixed results so far.
The future of vaccines
Q: What would you like people to walk away remembering about vaccines?
She hopes listeners remember that vaccines are safe, effective, and have saved millions of lives, and that they should seek data-backed information from trusted sources to understand questions and concerns.
The future of vaccines
Q: Why have vaccines become so controversial?
Bonnie Maldonado explains that it is a global phenomenon driven by a combination of historic success, rising lifestyle-related diseases shifting public focus, misinformation on social media, and trust gaps in institutions; she emphasizes that credible, non-governmental medical organizations often carry more trust in many communities, and stresses the need for clear, evidence-based messaging.
