  • Highly Informative

These podcasts are amazing resources for founders. I’m an avid listener and love the content overall. One small piece of feedback is the new host (Hannah) often spends too much time echoing back to the guest what they just said and it comes off as if she’s trying to show off and sound eloquent. She seems very smart and genuine but would do well to let the guest shine a little more.

  • Startup CPG Retail Sales Tracker

I attended my first Grocery Run event in Chicago and had the chance to meet buyers face to face — then came home and listened to this episode. Everything landed differently because of that experience. The tracker suddenly made complete sense: the retailer sequencing, the review calendars, knowing how to structure your outreach. I could map it directly to the conversations I’d just had. If you’re an emerging brand, don’t sleep on this. And if you can get to an in-person event first, do it — you’l... more

  • Thank you for providing another resource in the world of CPG.

As a CPG brand, I find these podcasts educational, inspiring and informative. I love to learn other brands stories and the “why” behind the brand. It is refreshing and encouraging to know other brands challenges are the same or similar to your own and that you are not alone in navigating the sea of CPG.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#255 - Mini episode: Non-UPF Verified Update
Q: How is the industry reacting, and what's next for Non-UPF Verified?
There's active excitement from brands and a growing interest at Expo West and beyond. We'll continue collaborating with the natural products community, incorporating feedback, and updating the standard so it remains responsive to industry needs and scientifically grounded.
#255 - Mini episode: Non-UPF Verified Update
Q: Who do you see as the earliest adopters and which categories will be most affected?
Early adopters are brands already committed to optimal ingredients with minimal processing, especially in beverages, frozen meals, and plant-based alternatives, where scrutiny of processing levels is increasing. The program targets meat, dairy, and non-dairy alternatives where processing is often higher, and collaboration with pioneering brands is ongoing.
#255 - Mini episode: Non-UPF Verified Update
Q: Hans, what are the big differences across certifications, and how does Non-UPF Verified stand out?
The key differences lie in probing the actual processing levels rather than just the ingredient lists. We audit manufacturing processes and limit materials like hydrogenation and high-heat extrusion, plus we enforce category-specific added sugar limits to reflect real-world expectations for each product type.
Founder Feature: Reinventing Honey Through Design, Packaging, and Consumer Psychology with Noah Phillips of Honey Department
Q: Can you walk us through why you decided to use a tube for your honey?
The tube, paired with creamed honey, creates a more user-friendly, spreadable texture and dispenses without the mess of traditional jars, turning honey into a more accessible, design-forward product that stands out on shelves.
Founder Feature: Reinventing Honey Through Design, Packaging, and Consumer Psychology with Noah Phillips of Honey Department
Q: So tell us, what is Honey Department?
Honey Department is 100% raw honey that's thickened and sold in a tube for daily use, combining a design-forward packaging approach with a single-ingredient product to encourage regular, convenient use.
