  • Scrub Daddy Wins!

HIBT is my twice-a-week go-to podcast. But the Scrub Daddy episode is by far my favorite. I love how the inventor iterated in business over and over. He made his own luck. Bravo!

  • Predictable

This show has a formula. It is write/rinse/repeat… Like a Taylor Swift song. It lacks talent and it is not real advice for real working people.

  • Inspirational

A broad range of startup stories, well picked founders of different generations and industries and moderated in a well-researched, gentlemen-like manner. Highly recommended.

  • Just an advertising platform

Title covers it all. I’ve gone through a good 20 episodes now and this is just marketing. Americans are given to wild optimism and positivity but this is pretty blatant marketeering. The recent Chomps episode is bonkers. Just call it an advertising channel for US based start ups and be done with. It.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Advice Line: New Offerings, Bigger Markets
Q: How would you approach positioning a scalable brand like Seagrass Pottery beyond a single location?
Focus on defining a core identity (retail/wholesale/experiences) and build a scalable framework (SOPs, training, and partner selection) so the brand can expand while maintaining quality. Consider flagship locations and strong wholesale relationships, with distinct branding that travels with the product.
Advice Line with Jonah Peretti of Buzzfeed
Q: What strategic path should Anthony consider for Motion Flix to scale?
Consider a model that combines clear brand standards with scalable systems, such as a hub with employees or a licensing/marketplace approach, while using AI-enabled training to duplicate operations across cities and maintain consistency.
Advice Line with Jonah Peretti of Buzzfeed
Q: Can you save Buzzfeed?
Peretti emphasizes reinforcing core strengths, reducing going-concern risk, and reinvigorating the business through selective reinvestment, new apps, and a refreshed community-driven approach rather than chasing short-term viral tactics.
Advice Line with David Neeleman of JetBlue
Q: Gotchies founder Vince Speroni, with limited cash on hand, how do you decide between adding new skews vs focusing on the current lineup and brand marketing?
David recommends a targeted approach: a few well-chosen new skews if data shows demand, but prioritize retention, customer communication, and testing before broader expansion.
Advice Line with David Neeleman of JetBlue
Q: Jeff Pajek, what are the two growth paths you're weighing for Ultimate Ninjas, and what is your timeline for the Olympic-related opportunity?
David and Guy discuss whether to accelerate building a professional league or grow the existing franchise network first, with timing tied to Olympic inclusion and capital constraints.
