The podcaster seems to be completely unfamiliar with the French language or even French pronunciation rules so that, to anyone familiar with them and, in particular, the names of the people mentioned, each wildly inaccurate attempt at pronunciation causes pain which makes it impossible to listen for long. It seems odd to have started on this mammoth task without some knowledge of the language or the relevant pronunciation. I love this podcast. It’s incredibly informative and it a great to get some real depth to an historical topic that would probably be out of reach for most people who are not proficient in French.

The Siècle is, of all the many narrative history podcasts I’ve encountered, absolutely the best of them. It’s immensely detailed and thorough, incredibly well-researched, and really compelling.

This is really helpful for spelling- I’m not a French expert and it can be hard to work out a name just from hearing it said- but also has pictures and most importantly a billion citations so you can see just how... more
David is a fantastic host. It starts out a little rough as he gets his footing, but around episode 6 or so it really gets going. If you love Revolutions or The Age of Napoleon, this is for you!
in an effort to understand this era of French history I have read a lot of books and even taken a college course, but I have never found a resource that so clearly and entertainingly laid it out as this podcast. Bravo!
