  • Common sense and non dogmatic approach to exercise

I’ve been listening to the RDP podcast for a year or more. Always makes sense, principle based, practical and built on a wealth of experience. Great commuting and training buddy except I need to take notes. Worth a listen to any exercise enthusiast with an open mind. Thanks Matt!

  • Best fitness advice out there

Been following Matt for years, love the way he keeps it simple and efficient with what you need to hear not what people may want to hear. Love the way his methods can be used with any workout equipment not just body weight as he teaches principles that will serve you and set you free, not a course to chain you into buying the next shiny thing. Can’t rate him high enough

  • Factual, Easy to Understand, and Great Advice

I read the book Calisthenics for Beginners and then I found out the author also has a podcast, I was happy to find out it has just as much great advice, knowledge, and information as the book he published. It also let me learn more about the author and his thoughts into the practice of Calisthenics. I would recommend anybody looking to learn more to give this podcast a listen, or even to check out the book which will give you a great foundation and workouts to start off with. 10/10

A Rep Speed Tweak to Unlock More Strength, Power & Hypertrophy
Q: Can I use my gymnastics rings as suspension straps?
Yes, gymnastics rings function similarly to suspension straps; the choice often comes down to personal preference and the specific exercises you want to perform, with both options capable of delivering a strong stimulus when used properly.
A Rep Speed Tweak to Unlock More Strength, Power & Hypertrophy
Q: Isn't the safest way to train to do so slowly to help preserve the joints?
Slower tempo can help with joint alignment and control, but safety primarily comes from good technique and appropriate muscle tension, not just slow movement; as you gain proficiency, you should be able to maintain alignment at faster speeds too.
The Potential Downsides of 2-Set Training
Q: What do you think of the hard time routine and higher-frequency training in terms of hypertrophy and practical use?
Higher-frequency or high-volume approaches can spark new adaptations but come with higher recovery demands and risk of fatigue; use them judiciously, as variations or occasional deloads, and prioritize the stimulus you want to create while listening to your body.
The Potential Downsides of 2-Set Training
Q: Hey Matt, how do you find two sets working with low frequency training?
Two sets can work well when the stimulus is appropriate for the goal, but the approach should be tailored to the individual's feedback and recovery; also consider frequency and how it fits with overall volume and the specific muscle-building stimulus you're aiming for.
AMA: Why Your Workouts Aren’t Working Out
Q: Hey Matt, can you use the Beautiful Strength template if you need to emphasize strength endurance for a period? And how would you go about doing it?
Yes, you can emphasize endurance by increasing repetitions (e.g., 15–25 reps, or longer holds in isometrics) and using lighter resistance while maintaining the core principles of approaching failure and monitoringMuscle work capacity. The updated version of Beautiful Strength will include endurance-focused periodization.
