  • Common sense and non dogmatic approach to exercise

I’ve been listening to the RDP podcast for a year or more. Always makes sense, principle based, practical and built on a wealth of experience. Great commuting and training buddy except I need to take notes. Worth a listen to any exercise enthusiast with an open mind. Thanks Matt!

  • Best fitness advice out there

Been following Matt for years, love the way he keeps it simple and efficient with what you need to hear not what people may want to hear. Love the way his methods can be used with any workout equipment not just body weight as he teaches principles that will serve you and set you free, not a course to chain you into buying the next shiny thing. Can’t rate him high enough

  • Factual, Easy to Understand, and Great Advice

I read the book Calisthenics for Beginners and then I found out the author also has a podcast, I was happy to find out it has just as much great advice, knowledge, and information as the book he published. It also let me learn more about the author and his thoughts into the practice of Calisthenics. I would recommend anybody looking to learn more to give this podcast a listen, or even to check out the book which will give you a great foundation and workouts to start off with. 10/10

Taking Back Control from The Industrial Fitness Complex
Q: Do you take pre-workout supplements like creatine, BCAAs, testosterone boosters, or other supplements?
Creatine is generally worthwhile and inexpensive; other supplements like BCAAs or testosterone boosters are often not worth the investment, and protein can be obtained from whole foods; overall, focus on practical basics and avoid chasing hype.
Taking Back Control from The Industrial Fitness Complex
Q: How do you stay on a clean healthy diet without the stress of psychological control and feeling deprived?
A flexible approach that prioritizes satiety and sustainability over rigid 'clean' rules, recognizing that occasional indulgences fit into a larger, balanced pattern helps keep stress low and adherence higher.
Why Eating “Clean” All Week Makes You Binge on Weekends
Q: What is the basic framework you recommend for meals to avoid overeating while still enjoying food?
Use the Three P's: each meal should emphasize protein, plants, and portion control, with a stoplight framework to pre-plan foods so you're mostly in the green, with yellow for edge-off foods and red for high-risk items.
Why Eating “Clean” All Week Makes You Binge on Weekends
Q: How should someone approach dieting cycles to avoid bingeing on weekends?
Incorporate the indulgent foods into your weekly plan in smaller portions rather than restricting them entirely; spread out the edge-off foods through the week to reduce stress and avoid big binges.
Why Eating “Clean” All Week Makes You Binge on Weekends
Q: What is the max recommended calorie deficit to lose weight, and is a drastic cut ever advisable?
A drastic deficit is not advisable; start with a moderate deficit (around 500 calories/day) and monitor energy and workout performance, then adjust temporarily or extend the deficit in small steps if needed.
