How hard would it have been for the dems after they won the trifecta in 2020 to make it that any personnel assigned/appointed by the pres MUST have experience in the area of the dept the pres wants them to lead. dems could have done that but as a decades long full ballot dem voter i realize that the dems gave been asleep at the wheel since reagan to get anything done! That is why those that were in congress then and are still in congress need to be forced out by term limits!! Term limits for all... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

'Troubled' candidates burden GOP already saddled with Trump's baggage
Q: Listening, do you talk about Ken Paxton that way? I'm struck by the contrast in the way you just sort of made the case against him there. Is that a conscious decision to avoid salacious charges and focus on public record?
Talarico explains that he prioritizes public records and policy over personal attacks, arguing that focusing on corruption and governance issues provides a constructive path to uniting voters and presenting a clear contrast with Paxton's record.
'Troubled' candidates burden GOP already saddled with Trump's baggage
Q: So talk me into the idea that you can win a statewide race in Texas right now in 2026 when Beto O'Rourke couldn't with that remarkable campaign, with either of his two remarkable campaigns, when Colin Allred couldn't, when Wendy Davis couldn't.
Talarico argues that the backlash against extremism and corruption creates a broader environment in which a Democratic candidate can win Texas, highlighting his statewide campaigning, engagement with Black Texans, and coalition-building across communities as key factors behind why he believes victory is possible this year.
Maddow: The bill comes due for Trump's bad decisions
Q: What was the significance of the Huerta case and its outcome?
The charges against Huerta were dismissed, which the guests frame as a vindication of protest rights and a demonstration that overzealous prosecutions can be checked when constitutional rights are invoked and legal arguments are sound.
Maddow: The bill comes due for Trump's bad decisions
Q: What does this episode suggest about the relationship between government policy and corporate accountability?
It argues that when government actions undermine public welfare, civil society and organized labor can apply pressure on financial institutions and other entities to change course, demonstrating that accountability can come from the combination of public pressure and legal avenues.
Maddow: Advice on defiance in the age of Trump
Q: Let me ask you about your elevator pitch for this book. When you are talking to people now about why they should read this book, what's the bottom line?
The bottom line is that people need inspiration and practical guidance; there isn't a single silver bullet for saving democracy, but a buffet of strategies—from small acts like bringing blankets to protests to larger actions like forming coalitions and preserving humane care for others—that collectively slow and resist authoritarianism.
