    Hello!

I’m so confused about where all the checks and balances are in our government.

I wanted to know how the department of Justice works in our country. I’ve been under the impression that it is separate from the administration. I assumed the DOJ were the lawyers for the people.

I would love an explanation as to why the systems seem to be breaking down

Hi Alice and Brett! I’ve been listening since day one and am a huge fan and recommend The Prosecutors to all of my fellow True Crime listeners.

Brett, since I know you especially care about how names and places are pronounced, here’s a pronunciation key for my name: Taw-she-nuh

It’s Native American, in case you were wondering.

Anyway, I do have a couple of questions for you both that I’ve been meaning to ask for a while, and am just now getting around to them. Here goes: Have either of you eve... more

Hello! Favorite podcast by far! My question is what is the difference between abortion restrictions and medical restriction. I understand this case is more first amendment, but could you explain how these are different issues?

When a person of interest with no prior record voluntarily submits DNA and is excluded, is that DNA profile entered or retained in CODIS, or must law enforcement collect a new sample if the individual is later arrested for a completely unrelated crime.

I have no legal background, but you can’t go wrong listening to anything the hosts of The Prosecutors offer. I’ve learned so many things I didn’t realize I wanted to know from Legal Briefs! Thank you, Brett and Alice, for being models of thoughtful discourse and healthy debate. You are both a class act! I have two questions. 1. You are clearly friendship soulmates, but you found each other a little late in life. What is your most vivid memory of your childhood friendships? 2. My son joined the ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

215. Mangione Suppression Rulings
Q: What is the core issue with Mangione's backpack search under New York law, and how does it differ from federal law?
The core issue is whether the initial search fell within the grabbable area of the arrestee; under New York law, moving the backpack away from Mangione can make the search invalid, whereas federal law allows more leeway under the exigency and inevitable discovery theories, leading to different outcomes in suppression rulings.
211. Birthright Citizenship at the Supreme Court
Q: Are Supreme Court arguing attorneys sworn in like witnesses when they speak, and do they have to bring evidence during oral arguments?
No. Oral arguments in the Supreme Court are not evidentiary hearings; advocates are not sworn witnesses. They present legal arguments and hypotheticals to illustrate how the law applies, rather than introducing trial evidence.
206. CrimeCon Q and A
Q: How do you balance motherhood and a demanding legal podcast career?
You balance by planning ahead, asking for help, prioritizing family, and reframing daily tasks as opportunities to be present with loved ones, while still pursuing meaningful work and maintaining a supportive team around you.
206. CrimeCon Q and A
Q: What is your most rewarding experience since starting the podcast?
The most rewarding experiences come from meeting listeners in person at CrimeCon, hearing their stories, and realizing the show's impact on real people, including fans who share personal moments and crafts inspired by episodes.
204. Our Conversation with Chandler Baker
Q: What's coming next for you in television and film?
She is co-show running a Paramount Plus legal thriller Discretion with Nicole Kidman and L. Fanning, currently in writers' rooms and outlining eight episodes.
