  • Adnan case

This was awful. You guys continuously gave everyone but Adnan the benefit of the doubt. The next time you do such a high profile case, perhaps try a little harder to hide your bias.

  • WM3

You two trying to present a case that the WM3 might really be guilty is revolting. Continuing to stand up for police/prosecution incompetence is disgraceful.

  • Commercial Volume, Holy Hell

I found this podcast reading about the WM3. Binged that case then started from the beginning. I really enjoy the show!

But FFS is there something that can be done about the commercial volume? I’m listening to the show at a normal volume and then with no transition have some idiot screaming in my ear about a car dealership or online gambling.

  • Occasional disingenuous arguments can make it weird

Love the friendship and banter between Brett and Alice, and they have great voices for podcast. I appreciate how well-researched each case seems. This is one of my comfort shows.

But every once in a while, to further convince you of their theory (regardless of whether there is already plenty of evidence) they’ll act like something a suspect did is way beyond human logic, and proves their guilt.

For example, I’m currently listening to the 2nd episode about Jade Beasley. Alice’s argument that it... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

357. The Murder of Jade Beasley Part 1 of 5 -- Songbird
Q: Has the defendant ever surprised you or managed to fool you in questioning?
The guests explain that defendants often think they can pull one over investigators, but experienced prosecutors rely on evidence and prepared questions to expose lies, noting that even seemingly credible denials can crumble under follow-up questions.
BONUS: Legal Briefs: Julia Cowley on the Nancy Guthrie case
Q: Is there a risk that multi-jurisdictional operations create turf wars or conflicts?
From my experience, turf wars are not the norm; the reality is that strong relationships and clear communication enable one investigation across jurisdictions, though public perception can still create myths about competition.
BONUS: Legal Briefs: Julia Cowley on the Nancy Guthrie case
Q: How quickly would the Behavioral Analysis Unit be brought in, and how early would profiling start?
BAU is brought in early in many cases, especially those with complex behavioral components; profiling starts with gathering data (crime scene photos, lab reports, victimology) and evolves as new information comes in, but it's often a gradual, collaborative process.
BONUS: Legal Briefs: Julia Cowley on the Nancy Guthrie case
Q: Can you talk through when the FBI becomes involved in a case like this?
Involvement typically begins when invited by state or local authorities or when the case involves elements like interstate activity, significant digital evidence, or the potential for federal jurisdiction; it's about supporting, not taking over, and depends on relationships and the specifics of the case.
350. The Isdal Woman Part 5
Q: How often does your podcast life come up in your day-to-day life?
It comes up regularly, especially since moving to a new city where people Google my name, and coworkers frequently reference it.
