  • When you see behind the curtain

Seems entertaining, and they present themselves as more qualified to comment on cases because they’re lawyers; however, the truth is they present biased narratives to support their viewpoints. Trying to claim the west Memphis 3 might be guilty? Ridiculous takes on Adnan Syed… I just lost respect for their viewpoints after seeing how they commented on cases I know well. They hid their names for a long time. Seeing who they are in real life… they’re just not good people, and it puts all of what th... more

  • I love your faith!

Brett and Alice, thank you very much for your testimony and for making the belief in Jesus the Christ something accessible for everyone. So many times people are too nervous to talk about their faith in such a public forum, so I’m grateful for your boldness. Continue to keep up the great work. I’m a big fan.

  • Does this mean we’re getting a history podcast finally?

So… now that Brett is enjoying the life of retirement, does this mean we can finally get a history podcast hosted by him? I know Alice has like twelve kids under the age of 12 and a full time lawyer job, plus like 5 podcasts, so I don’t want to add to her plate (promise Alice, it’s not because I don’t want you on a history podcast too, I’d love for y’all to both be on it!) But I’ll happily add to Brett’s plate — he’s got the time now lol. Especially because I cannot seem to find a history podcas... more

What exactly does it mean to be held in contempt of court? What actions can trigger contempt and what are the consequences? Any stories of this happening to you?

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

362. The Real Prosecutors on Songbird Road
Q: Why were diary entries or fingernail scrapings not introduced or tested?
The diaries would have muddied the narrative and required too much context, risking confusion and sympathy for the defendant over the core evidence; fingernail scrapings were not tested due to prior substantial DNA support and lab backlog considerations, plus strategic decisions about what was necessary for conviction.
362. The Real Prosecutors on Songbird Road
Q: What was the most surprising moment or decision during the trial?
The most surprising moment was the decision to introduce the bite-mark testimony under strict limitations, balancing evidentiary risk with the need to present a complete and compelling timeline for the jury.
362. The Real Prosecutors on Songbird Road
Q: How do you deal with the pressure of national attention in a case like this?
We relied on our experience, stayed focused on the facts, and kept our oath to seek justice rather than chase headlines, using that pressure to reinforce our commitment rather than derail our approach.
357. The Murder of Jade Beasley Part 1 of 5 -- Songbird
Q: Has the defendant ever surprised you or managed to fool you in questioning?
The guests explain that defendants often think they can pull one over investigators, but experienced prosecutors rely on evidence and prepared questions to expose lies, noting that even seemingly credible denials can crumble under follow-up questions.
BONUS: Legal Briefs: Julia Cowley on the Nancy Guthrie case
Q: Is there a risk that multi-jurisdictional operations create turf wars or conflicts?
From my experience, turf wars are not the norm; the reality is that strong relationships and clear communication enable one investigation across jurisdictions, though public perception can still create myths about competition.
