  • 2nd rvw and a rec for hosts

I reviewed the podcast, years ago, and lauded it for real insight ( based on efl club doings and ,globally!) not found elsewhere.

    Unique.

    It remains so.

    So, why review again?

Well, kieran’s partner lamented in the most recent episode, that neville sold an interest in his podcast for a huge sum … all the while their own podcast cannot bring a sum anywhere near such.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The value of Premier League shares, why player contracts typically end in June
Q: How is the value of Premier League shares accounted for when a club is demoted and the shares are swapped or diluted?
Shareholdings are tracked via Companies House confirmations; shares are transferred at face value, with the actual market value not changing the transfer price, and promotions/relegations involve formal share transfers or swaps.
The value of Premier League shares, why player contracts typically end in June
Q: Why do all contracts seem to end in June, and could there be a system where contracts end in January to enable mid-season free transfers?
Contracts end in June to align with the transfer window; there is some room to adjust terms, but January terminations are less common due to planning and market norms, and players' certainty is balanced against clubs' needs.
The value of Premier League shares, why player contracts typically end in June
Q: If a club takes a 10 million pound loan from the owners, would this show as an immediate profit on the books or is it completely separate?
A loan is a balance sheet item, not a profit; PSR concerns revenues and costs, and the loan affects only the balance sheet and possibly interest charges, not profit and loss unless interest is charged.
Chelsea post record losses, are manager contracts amortised?
Q: Are manager's contracts amortized in the same way as player contracts?
The hosts discuss that while there is some precedent for treating manager compensation similarly to player transfers, the practice isn't uniform; if a manager's compensation is paid as part of a contract and the manager is dismissed early, the remaining unamortized cost would hit the club's results, suggesting a partial alignment with player amortisation but with notable differences depending on contract terms and termination conditions.
The value of Manchester United, amortisation and transfer dates
Q: Is there now a loophole with transfers in that club A could buy a player with a sell-on clause included in the contract?
There is indeed a potential for creativity and manipulation within a multi-club ownership model, where player valuations may not reflect true market value, allowing for strategies that might benefit the purchasing club.
