  • Disappointingly shallow

Anyone who reads Sam Freedman’s Substack knows that he’s one of the best writers on British politics today. Every post is fascinating and I learn a great deal from reading them that you wouldn’t get from many other sources. So I’ve been quite disappointed to find this podcast pretty shallow. The other host Ayesha Hazarika speaks like she’s hosting a radio phone in and the conversation assumes that people listening have only a surface level knowledge of politics.

  • Food for thought!

Really enjoying the podcast so far! As a previous Conservative voter, I’m disillusioned with all parties at the minute.

Currently Starmer just isn’t for me, although I really like Rachel Reeves and Angie Rayner - maybe this will start to convince me….?!

    Keep up the great work!

Paying for Crime: can Labour reignite the "respect agenda"?
Q: Are you worried about the potential lack of investment in youth services alongside the commitment to additional police?
Yes, there's a concern that while more police may be added, the investment in youth services and community support may not match the needs, risking an inadequate approach to the root causes of antisocial behavior.
Paying for Crime: can Labour reignite the "respect agenda"?
Q: What do you think about Labour's new vision for antisocial behaviour and respect?
Labour's current approach is traditional and focuses on having community police to control youth crime, addressing a gap left by the Tories. However, it's limited by new challenges like the influence of the internet on youth behavior.
The Immigration Conundrum: does Labour have a positive solution for the UK's borders?
Q: Do you think there might be a tipping point where migration is seen more positively by government?
The forces driving the need for immigration will continue, but there will still be lots of people who want to migrate that the government will say no to.
The Immigration Conundrum: does Labour have a positive solution for the UK's borders?
Q: Tell us a bit more about how the Migration Advisory Committee works and what its role is.
The Migration Advisory Committee is appointed by the government, composed of migration academics, mainly economists, and it takes an evidence-based approach to answering questions about immigration policy as posed by the government.
A Very Scottish Drama
Q: What happens next in Scottish politics after Humza Yousef's resignation?
The SNP has time to find a new leader; if the Parliament can't agree, an election may be called.
