  • BIPARTISAN????

Merriam-Webster defines Bipartisan “involving members of two parties”, adding “specifically: marked by or involving cooperation, agreement, and compromise between two major political parties”

This show promotes itself as bipartisan, but it would be better described as moderately liberal. I have been searching for a source for meaningful, civil, discussion between the two major parties. I am desperate to hear the arguments from both sides of the isle. Based on the tag line in Apple Podcasts “Bi... more

In your Jan 3 2026 episode - a good episode - one of you suggested “a series on maybe constitutional amendments you would add if we're not going to rewrite the Constitution.”

He is the author of Parliamentary America: The Least Radical Means of Radically Repairing Our Broken Democracy,” and a respected professor of law and game theory at the University of Maryland law school. • The uhh podcast

Used to love this podcast, but the new hosts are hard to listen to with all the “uhh’s”. Combine that with zero pushback to easily debatable MAGA talking points, and it’s no longer worth listening to.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

When “National Security” Becomes a Blank Check
Q: What are the legal and constitutional concerns with the Venezuela strike and similar actions?
The hosts argue that indictment or due-process concepts should guide handling of suspects, and express worry that unilateral killings in foreign territories could exceed presidential authority and undermine the rule of law.
When “National Security” Becomes a Blank Check
Q: Why do you think the Anthropic export controls are being framed as a national security measure?
The panel discusses that while national security concerns may be legitimate in theory, the lack of a clear process and the ad hoc nature of the decision fuel concerns about transparency and potential political misuses.
Outrage Overload: Why Politics Keeps Us Mad—and Who Benefits
Q: What practical steps can individuals take to reduce outrage in everyday political conversations?
Individuals can practice active listening, seek common ground beyond politics (e.g., shared identities like family or hobbies), and engage in conversations that stay in the middle ground rather than turning every exchange into a win-lose battle. Time-blocking social media use, reducing doom scrolling, and building relationships with people who hold different views can help lower the temperature and improve understanding.
Outrage Overload: Why Politics Keeps Us Mad—and Who Benefits
Q: Why do we see so much outrage in politics, and is it really asymmetric between the left and right?
Outrage is driven by incentives in media and politics, attracting attention and reinforcing tribal identities. While styles differ—conservatives often use direct, high-energy outrage and the left uses satire and irony—the underlying goal is attention and validation within a group. Both sides leverage outrage to mobilize supporters, though the specific strategies and signals may feel asymmetric due to media ecosystems and audience expectations.
Founders’ Fire: From 1776 to the Age of Trump
Q: What is the role of the Constitution in enabling future breakthroughs, especially in tech like AI?
The Constitution, particularly patent rights, protects creators and incentivizes invention, which can unleash long-term technological advancement while keeping innovation personal and rights-based rather than centralized.
