Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why podcast guest cross-promotion as a growth strategy is a fairytale
Q: Hi Neal, quick question. Every time I have a guest on, I share the episode everywhere I can, but they never seem to return the favour. I've tried sending them the link. I've tried tagging them on LinkedIn. I've sent a followup message with the clip ready to go, and none of it works. It all feels a bit one-sided. Is there something that I should be doing differently, or is this just how guests are?
Neal emphasizes that you should not evaluate guest episodes by whether the guest shares them. Instead, assess if the episode itself is compelling enough to stand out and be worth sharing to new audiences. The focus should be on delivering content that delivers value and transformation to listeners, not on piggybacking off the guest's reach. In other words, improve the episode's inherent quality and resonance to drive growth.

Q: What do you think about unsolicited topic suggestions from listeners?
Neal suggests that it's important to acknowledge the good intentions behind such feedback while also managing one's emotions regarding unsolicited suggestions.
Why you don't need a camera to grow your podcast!
Q: How will I know if the new intros are actually working?
You can check your retention curve for the first 60 to 120 seconds of your episodes, and if drop off decreases, your new intro is effective. You can also ask loyal listeners what promise you made in your intro to gauge clarity.

Q: How can you convert critics into advocates?
By reaching out to address their concerns, showing willingness to listen, and encouraging them to share their opinions publicly.

Q: What should you do if a comment gets under your skin?
He advises not to address it for 24 hours to allow emotions to settle before responding calmly.
